{I}NSD - The Fabulous Forgers' Fantastic Favourites - Clair's Celebrity Crushes

Good Morning Scrappers! I can't believe that I'm kicking off the (Inter)national Scrapbook Day celebrations here this morning, as in reality, I am most likely still in bed! I want to be well rested for all of the amazing activities that will be happening throughout the day!

Each of the Master Forgers will be talking a little bit about their scrapbooking favourites today - and I wanted to start with my celebrity crushes. No! Not Matthew Goode or Karl Urban - the 'celebrity' scrapbookers who have had the most influence on my own scrapbooking! What were you thinking? :)

Kara Haupt - Remember Hambly? Well, in 2009 (I am feeling a little nostalgic!) Kara Haupt, was one of the industries freshest faces and - at 17 - bagged a spot on the coveted Hambly Design Team. I adored her combination of scrapbooking and art journalling - and, at a difficult time in my own life - used a similar approach in my own scrapbooking. Telling my own story, with an emphasis on my emotions, was very cathartic!

Ali Edwards - I must admit to being a fairly recent Ali 'convert'. Whilst I've been aware of December Daily since I started scrapbooking in 2008, it seems to have taken me a long time - too long, in fact - to really appreciate her approach to scrapbooking.

Perhaps it's because I've been re-evaluating my own reasons for scrapbooking recently, but I have fallen in love with the way that Ali consistently documents her life (and the life of her family) with an emphasis on telling a story through photography and simple journalling. I love the everyday. I love that the little details are never lost. And, most of all, I love Ali's willingness to share the 'low' moments of life, along with the highlights. It's an honest representation of life. (Week In The Life starts on Monday 9th May. I can't wait!)

Tara Anderson - You'll most likely have heard of Tara Anderson if Crate Paper and Gossamer Blue are amongst your own scrapbooking favourites, but I originally came across Tara Anderson via Flickr. (Wow. Remember when Flickr was new? This is making me feel so old!)

Tara's scrapbooking style is so very different from my own (although we both share a love of chunky mini-albums!) but Tara certainly influenced my own early scrapbooking - and in a major way. I was a little in awe (and still am) of her amazing photography and styling skills and desperately wanted to be able to show of my own scrapbooking in a similar way. This led me to buy my very first DSLR and, eventually, I took a short photography course.

Now I'm able to take well-lit, well edited, photographs of my own work, but the added benefit is that the photographs I'm scrapping have improved as a result!

I would be absolutely thrilled to hear of your own favourite scrapbooking celebrities and influences, so please leave me a comment (and maybe a link) so that we can share the love!

Have a wonderful day! Clair x

  1. Lovely idea for a post, Clair! I must say my first & still fave scrap crush was our very own Lisa Hausmann :D Oh, those clusters, and mounds of delicious patterned papers - often fussycut - and her own handwriting on the page... sigh

  2. Ali is definitely one of my idols. I've seen Tara's work but can't remember Kara - looking forward to learning more about her!
