Been Caught Stealing...November 2012 Guest Designer

This month's Guest Counterfeiter is Julie!!
And here is a little bit about Julie...

"Hello, fellow forgers!!! I'm Julie LaKose, totally honored to be guest designing here this month, and officially addicted to the Counterfeit Kit Challenges! Scrapbooking is a form of therapy for me, a way to identify what is in my heart. Whether that is something silly, romantic or serious....you'll see my heart on my pages! Thank you so much for the opportunity to be here, in this capacity this month! I'm super excited for the kit reveal and to see what everyone else creates. This is a wonderful place of scrappy inspiration and challenges. Every month, I see new things I have to try!!! Happy creating, friends!!!"

Challenge #3: Card Challenge

I have a challenge for you!  One of the hardest things for me is making cards for guys.  I guess because I don't know too many guys who would actually save them, so I figure, why bother?  Girly cards?  SO much easier!  I feel like I can embellish them more and put more effort into them

Challenge #3: Masculine/Feminine Card Challenge:  Make TWO versions of the same card...one masculine and one feminine.

Some tips on masculine cards:
1.  Keep it simple...layers and doodads are not overly necessary on a masculine card.
2.  Use bold color combinations.
3.  Try using a linear design.
4.  Add details through texture.

Favorite Things...

I love some of the topics on 2 Peas.  They are my fluff reading when I need a bit of a break.

I liked one of the questions I read on there this weekend...

What is your favorite scrappy thing on your desk right now?  Or in your stash?

Challenge #2: Photo Focus

One of the most challenge parts of creating for me is sharing what I make.  I don't mean giving them away...I mean taking nice photos of my projects to put on my blog or share on facebook with friends.  My photos come out crooked....too dark...flat...totally making it look like I spent very little time on the project.  I really want to do better with this, so I invite you to work on it with me.

Challenge #2: Photo Focus:  Make any project you like...the challenge is in HOW you photograph that project to put on your blog.  Be creative and make it look the best you can!

Getting you started:
How to take great photos
How to photograph your scrapbook layouts
Photographing Layouts
How to take pictures of your cards
Photographing cards indoors

Stylish Refridgerator

I don't dare show you the front of my fridge.  Don't ask me.  It is nice and clean , but has become a storage board of papers for the kids.  (Yes, we do have a bulletin board, too...that is also full!  UGH!)  We also seem to collect magnets.  Random ones.  From places we have never been.

Now why can't my fridge look like this?

Seriously, how cute is that?  There are detailed instructions on the Basic Grey Blog.   Now please make me feel better about my fridge and tell me that yours looks "lived in", too...LOL

Organize This: Week 20 : Die Cuts

For a  girl who owns 2 Cricut machines and a Wishblade...die cuts are inevitable.  I seem to have more fun making them than actually using them.  (Hey...I'm not the only one, so stop looking at me like that!)

Lately, I have been inspired by the different companies making the die cuts when it comes to storing them.

Don't you love how you can buy packs by theme...and have just what you need for your projets?  I have been putting my left over die cuts in themed packs and hang them from my Clip It Up.  It looks like my own little store in here!

My Love Affair with the Label Maker has another great post about organizing.  How do YOU organize your die cuts?

Master Forger Quilt Challenge

Guest Designer: Katie Scott

My Kick It layout was inspired by (aka. a scraplift of) the Happiness Layout by "Just Em" in the Two Peas Gallery made with the Gossamer Blue Kit. I used my old school Sizzix with some Star Die Cuts to make all the stars. I used my 6x6 papers and cut them to 4 inches wide first, this will still give me lots of use from these papers. The stars reminded me of comic book "ka-pow" type images of people punching or hitting each other. My son recently took his Brown Belt Test in Karate and had to break several boards with his karate kicks, I got a few good photos of him kicking the boards in half. By "good" I mean I got the action shot but didn't get an especially close up version of the kick so I cropped by 4x6 photos down very small; something I don't normally do. I used 2 photos instead of JustEm's one photo. I added Smash Book stickers and washi tape. I die cut the title with my Quickutz. This layout took me about an hour to create since my son kept coming in to check on it and immediately after I finished it and photographed it, he said he'd like it on his wall above his lego desk - so we took out an older layout about a bunny and put this Kick It layout in its place! When you say the "Kick It" title try to remember how the Beastie Boys started "You've Got to Fight For Your Right to Party!" - they said "Kick It!" This accomplishment was pretty awesome, his Black Belt test will probably be next summer so its important for him to remember the awesome feeling of kicking that board in two - because he's got to work hard this year and in the 6 hour Black Belt test next year!

A little Design Team Fun to share...

You don't think that we ONLY work on our kits, do you?  We have a great Design Team who like to chat and do some independent challenges.  We would LOVE to share our latest one with you!

Big thanks to Crystal for creating and faciliting it for us!

Morph Challenge:  Have you ever heard of the game telephone?  One person whispers a phrase to the next person and so on down the line until the last person says the phrase out loud...generally it is nothing like what the first person said.

For our Morph Challenge, Crystal created a layout and shared it with Lisa.  Lisa created a layout based on Crystal's original one and then shared hers with the next person in line, each person changing something from the layout created by the person in front of them.

Here is a complete list of the hop...start with Crystal so you can see our original inspiration!

October 2012 Inspiration Kit

The October 2012 Inspiration Kit is the September kit put together by a new kit club called Gossamer Blue.  Their September 2012 kit contains some trendy chevron patterned paper and lots of cool label stickers--I'm a sucker for label stickers.  You can view a photo of the kit and the contents on their web site right here.   We hope you will enjoy creating your Counterfeit Kit based on this inspiration.

What's the next step???

The CHALLENGE is to use this kit for inspiration. How, you ask? Well, there are many ways to go about this. Here are a few ideas...
  • Try and match every piece in the kit as close as possible to something from your supply stash.
  • Use the "kit contents" as inspiration, and recreate your own kit with the same types of supplies, but in a different color or style that corresponds better with your preferences/photographs/scrapbook style/tastes.
  • Make an even smaller "page kit" or "card kit"..."counterfeiting" just a few items from this month's kit as inspiration.
  • Using the color scheme from the kits as inspiration, try to re-create a kit of your own using whatever supplies you have available.

What's to come?...
  • Tomorrow we will post pictures of the inspired Counterfeit Kits we put together from our stash of supplies. The link for you to share pictures of your Counterfeit Kits with each other is here.
  • Over the next week, we will add links to tutorials for counterfeiting many of the embellishments in this month's inspiration Kit's.
  • Over the next month, we will post mini challenges to USE your new kit, as well as organize a blog hop to share your creations!
  • We hope you all find some inspiration in the kit club we choose this month!!! If you aren't sure where to begin, check out the "Hints and Tips" page of our blog for some help. Feel free to leave a comment, questions, or any suggestions!!! We look forward to hearing from you.

Mister Linky For July 2012

To find the Mister Linky Post quickly, there is a link on the top right sidebar of our blog called "Mister Linky Post". Every time you would like to link a picture of your counterfeit kit, or a layout you made with your kit, please link it to that Mister Linky, also found here.

You do not need to have a blog or on-line gallery to link your pictures. You can upload the picture to your Facebook (don't forget to share it as "public") and link that web address to Mister Linky! Or, if you need help figuring out how to link your work, please e-mail us, attach your picture, and we'll help you out. Our e-mail is counterfeitkitchallenge@yahoo.com.

Mister Linky October 2012

Here is the Mister Linky for ALL of the links for the month of October...whether you are linking a picture of your kit, a mini challenge, or anything else you have created, link it here. There is a "quick link" to this Mister Linky on the top right side bar of the blog as well.

In order to make this Mister Linky a little easier to *understand* with so many different types of links in it...in the "name" field below, type your name and either the word "kit", "mini challenge", or "other" according to what you are linking. Hopefully that will keep it a little organized!!!

A sad Goodbye to some Master Forgers

We have two lovely Design Team members who had to step down recently and we will miss them tremendously.  I do have a love of having our former DT members jump back in for guest designing when they can, so I'm sure you will find them with us again in future months.

We loved having you

That also means that we will have some spots to fill, so you can be on the look out for a Design Team Call in the near future!
