June 2025 - Just The Gist!

Sometimes it can be hard to curate a kit from your stash using an inspiration kit.  Maybe the colors aren't your thing.  Maybe the theme isn't one you will use.  Maybe it's too grungy or too cutesy.  Then, this post is for you!  I'll break down how I go about curating a kit from my stash a few different ways.  First, I'd like to remind you of this month's kit.

NJFB "Intrinsic" Limitless Kit

One of the first things I do when I am presented with a kit to use as inspiration to shop my stash is to look at the patterned paper.  I love paper and it's the basis of all of my kits.  What I saw first when I looked at this kit, I saw the woodgrain.  Woodgrain is one of my favorite backgrounds.  I grabbed a similar woodgrain from my stash.  In fact, I grabbed two sheets.  Mine came from Echo Park while the the one in the kit is from Simple Stores Color Vibe.

The next sheet I checked out was the grungy, rusty background paper.  I found a couple of these in a P13 Paper Pad so I pulled those to use in my kit.  I also grabbed the Simple Stories Boho Baby Rainbow paper in the kit since I have it.  Here are my papers from my personal kit:

I also added in a Vintage Artistry Nature Study Foundations paper from 49 & Market, two more sheets from Boho Baby for some additional color and piece from Vintage Orchard (also 49 & Market) that looked a little like the collage sheet in the inspiration kit.

Adding florals and a stripe to my kit not only added a little more color but also made the kit more ME.  I think it's important to create a kit that YOU WILL USE.  I have been guilty of creating a CKCB kit exactly like the inspiration kit and not really using it because it wasn't my style.  So, my goal is always to make sure it's a kit that I will use by adding my own flair.

So, what if the papers in the inspiration kit aren't your thing?  Easy.  The next step is to use a color palette.  I created this one on a freebie site.

You can see how my own papers match this color palette fairly well.  After looking at the color palette, you should be able to pull in items from your stash.

How about checking on the overall theme of a kit?  Our inspiration kit is a grungy, travel theme.  There's a wood veneer compass rose in the kit.

You could use this item to curate a nice travel themed kit in the colors of your choice if you'd like.  I pulled some wood veneer from my own stash to mimic this theme.

As you can see, I am creating my own themed kit with my embellishments.  I have lots of hiking icons and other flora items in my own kit.  I have a TON of hiking photos to scrapbook.  So, this is perfect for me.  Maybe you don't hike.  Do you take walks in your neighborhood?  Take some photos and scrap them!  Tell the story of your daily walks.

There are so many wonderful icons in the Inspiration Kit, use some of those to create a kit of your very own.  I added some similar 49 & Market ephemera packs to my kit which are perfect for layering!

The inspiration kit also has some acrylic title pieces. I dug through my stash of Bramble Fox perspectives and pulled a few that should work well with my theme.

Of course I also included several opened Thickers packs as well so if one of those titles doesn't work for my layouts, I can use those to make the perfect title.

I really hope that this little write up helps you to dig into your stash and create a kit that you will love.  Make sure you have photos to scrap on hand too!!!
