Season's Greetings

I don't really consider myself a card maker so I tend to translate my scrapbooking style onto the smaller scale of a card. And I think that one of my signature scrapbook techniques is to

Use layers.

I had a vision of what I wanted to achieve and found a set of die cuts shapes from Shimelle's Christmas collection some time ago as well as the matching 6x6 paper pad so that all my elements would match.

I then cut some different lengths of patterned paper in different widths and picked out die cuts which I thought would work in the layered banner effect that I wanted to create. I had some woodgrain textured white cardstock which seemed a good choice and decided to give it some texture and interest by stitching round the edges in gold thread.

And why prepare just one card, when I could create three at the same time with the same concept?

From then on, it was a simple case of mixing the colours, shapes and sizes up across the white background to create layers and interest. 

I added a tiny amount of adhesive to each piece to just hold it in place as I was piling them up - this means it's easy to shift and move things around if necessary. There tends to be quite some tweaking as I'm deciding what goes where! It also helps keep thinks in place when I stitch across the top which I had planned to do. 

Several rows of stitching along the top for a messy effect, loose thread ends, a sprinkle of sequins and a sentiment was all that I needed to finish these off before mounting them onto card blanks. 

Quick and easy as is my way and with all those layers, true to my style!

I have to admit that these cards are coming in very useful right now as the cards I've made here for Season's Greetings are the only cards I have to greet my loved ones! 

I might be replicating the techniques and styles I've created to stock up to the numbers I need - yes I'm super late but at least I have a few pretty hand-made cards to send out! So don't worry if you're still putting cards together - we are all here in good company!
