April 2020 - Just The Gist Of It

Hello lovelies. Sometimes it can be a little difficult to know exactly where to start when 'counterfeiting' a kit, so I'm here today with a few ideas of how you can use this month's inspiration kit to create a beautiful kit from the items you already have in your own stash.

Let's take another look at the inspiration kits, shall we?

I will usually start my kits in one of three different ways - with the colours; the theme or a list of the different elements of the inspiration kits.

Usually, it's the colours that inspire me the most, and it was definitely the colours that made me want to counterfeit the Orchard Path Kits this month. I was drawn to the combination of colours that seemed ideal for spring, with a few darker colours thrown into the mix to keep it interesting. You can use a Colour Palette Generator to create your own selection of colours (like the one below) or you can just start with your favourites. And remember, that if you play around with the balance of the colours, you're kit can feel really different to the original inspiration kits!

If I'm not sure about the colours, or I don't have a lot of them in my own stash, then I will often start with the kit theme. So, how about a kit full of florals, leaves and outdoor themed items?

Finally, if I'm really stuck, I'll make a list of the elements of the inspiration kit that I may want to include. For this month's kit, I could include Pocket Life Cards, Floral Patterns, Enamel Dots, Planner Tabs, Ribbon Paperclips, Labels and a Small Alpha. You can then shop your own stash for these items, without the need to match them to the overall colour scheme or feel of the inspiration kit.

Whichever way you decide to head with your kits, we'd love to see them!

Still need inspiration? The Master Forgers have a variety of different ways to start their kits, so be sure to check out yesterday's Kit Reveal and Blog Hop, if you haven't already. And of course, don't forget that we'll be back throughout the month to give you some tips, ideas and challenges as you put together and use your kit.

Here's what we have coming up for the rest of the month:
  • April 4th: We'll have our "Forgery on the Fourth" post where the Master Forgers will reveal how they created their own version of some of the items in this month's kit.
  • April 6th: We'll reveal a couple of mini-kits and projects, in case you're a little limited for time this month and would prefer a more petite kit.
  • April 12th & 18th: We'll give you two challenges to help you use the kit you've made.
  • April 24th: I'll be showcasing one of the CKC community who's caught my eye this month
  • April 30th: We'll be offering another instalment in our Killing Kits Series to help you find ways to use up all of your kit.

We always love to see your work, so please share your kits and projects with us. You can use our Monthly Link-up page, post them in our Facebook Community, or share them on Instagram (we are @counterfeitkitchallenge or tag us using #counterfeitkitchallenge and #ckcapril2020).

Thanks so much for stopping by! We can't wait to see your kits and projects this month!

  1. As I've looked at the inspiration kit photos and see posts of a few MF and blog followers that have posted in the FB group already, the 3 key colors that stand out are the early spring green "pea soup" tone, the celery green tone, and peach. If I get time to play this week while on Spring Break from my SAH new teaching format, I'll be treasure hunting through my stockpile looking for those 3 tones to base an April kit.
