Hey...I can make THAT!

February Tutorials

Welcome to "Hey...I Can Make THAT!"
A monthly post to help you truly counterfeit many of the components of the current month's kit.  No need to go out and purchase...just use the supplies you already have to create some of the freshest and trendiest products out there.  Here you will find links to our amazing design team members' blogs and/or links to other craft sites on the web showing how to counterfeit these must-have products.

This month's inspiration, "Across the Miles", comes to us from Scrapbook.com.  Take a look to see what you may be able to forge.

Here are some ideas and inspiration from your Master Forgers....

It's hard not to notice the gold trend EVERYWHERE!  The gold vellum map paper in the kit is fabulous, but it is also out of stock EVERYWHERE!  Take a look at this tutorial HERE from Debbie Hodge to see how you can use gold leaf to create the same effect.

Now, let's just say you don't have a Silhouette or a laminator or a laser printer or a jar of gold leafing.  Not to worry as Master Forger Lynnette has a poor scrapper's version of the vellum map paper.  Take a look at her blog HERE.

Leslie has a couple of golden surprises up her sleeve as well!

LesleyG has forged four of the items for her kit, here's sneak peek...

Hop on over to her blog for the full details.

And if you want to insert that airmail vibe into your kit this month, try these FREE printables from pinterest HERE.  Nothing better than free for clever and crafty counterfeiting!

Okay...now go get busy!  We'd love to see how you can make your stash work for you!  Show us on Mr. Linky!

This month our inspiration kit, "Island Paradise", is brought to you by Scrapbook Circle.

Let's see how you can create some of these pretties with the help of your Master Forgers.

Jemma has been having fun with chipboard, cork paper and stamps as well as cork and rub-ons to counterfeit the Scrapbook Circle Exclusive Cork Die "Cutes":

Jimjams - Counterfeit Cork Embellishments

Lynnette has an insider's tip for you!  Later this month, you MAY just need to get a bit messy with some mixed media projects.  Here's a DIY recipe and video tutorial on how to make your own texture paste.

See Leslie's monthly mastery HERE

Need a little direction on how to approach the whole counterfeiting process?
Master Forger Stephanie's video from the September Reveal hop to the rescue!
If you've been looking to take the counterfeiting plunge or just need a fresh approach, it's worth a look to see her process in assembling a kit.  While there's no right or wrong way, it is interesting to learn different ways to tackle it.

Check out her video here.

Hope we've given you the confidence to forge some products and/or assemble a kit.  It's so much fun to play along with us at Counterfeit Kit.  Can't wait to see you there!

Read more about it HERE.

Julene has counterfeited one of the papers using old alphas

Lynnette had another take on the super happy cloud paper.  Take a look here.

Jemma has been counterfeiting Twine + Ink gold puffy stars and circles from the Spun Sugar add-on:
  1. Apply 2-3 coasts of gold nail polish to cheap children's stickers
  2. Once dry, remove from the backing sheet, removing excess polish
  3. Stick to project!

Hope you were inspired.  We'll be looking for your fabulous kits on Mr. Linky!

Let's see how you can create some of these pretties with the help of your Master Forgers.

Jemma had a go at reproducing the bright colours against black backgrounds of the Hazel & Ruby Chalk It Up Supplies (with mixed success) here:

You may be wondering how you can get your hands on some felt roses like the lime green one featured in the inspiration.  Lynnette found a tutorial via Pinterest on this blog here.  Certainly looks easy enough!

Enamel dots still seem to be a mainstay in many of our monthly kits.  They are included in this month's kit as well.

In case you haven't seen the latest craze in scrappy DIY, you MUST check out this video for making your own enamel dots using Perler beads.  An inexpensive children's craft product that can also double as a scrapbook embellishment?  YES, please!  Check out the Youtube video here.

Angela and her daughter have made a SMASH Styled Travel Journal. Angela has been sharing the process with us on her blog.

Leslie has forged her own mini-line of papers this month
along with some of the kit goodies HERE.

LesleyG has created 3 items for her kit this month.

Are you a traditional scrapbooker?  Do you like to art journal?  Project Life more your thing?  There's a kit for everyone!  And lots of kits mean lots of forgeries going on over at CKC Design Team Central.  Let's see what our lovely Master Forgers have up their sleeve this month...

LesleyG made her own map paper by simply printing onto a patterned 12x12
By doing this she has personalised the paper and you can see
the resulting layout HERE

Angela was inspired by the globe pieces and made her very own digital stamp.
She tells us that it's very simple to do and has put a tutorial together to show us how here.
AND Angela's even created a free printable of the stamp she created for us to use (available until 29th May) that you can download from her blog here.

Leslie S had a bit of a misfire with one of her forgeries.
Check it out here - plus a few successes!

Angela's been rooting around for objects to make marks similar to the Crafter's Workshop Stencil included as an addon for the Cocoa Daisy kits. See what she found on her blog here.

Or how about making your very own dotty stencils using acetate and a hole punch?

Are you running out of Mod-Podge? Angela's art mentor, Cilenia Curtis, shared some tips with her on how to make her own.

Meanwhile, Jemma's been stitching again to create those Studio Calico Stitched Journalling Cards:

Milissa has a trio of quick, easy tutorials for you here and here.

Kudos to our guest designer, Elaine for jumping right in to show us how to make a copycat version of the yellow and raspberry brick inspired paper in the kit.  Check it out on her blog here:

Lesley has some printables for you over on her blog,
she doesn't do stitching!

Leslie tackled a few of the papers

Get ready to see stars AND hearts in this round of tutorials pulled from our February Counterfeit offering.  Find out all about the inspiration kit here.

Now...let's get on with forging!

LesleyG has forged the MME Cupid's Arrow Love 3""x4" Cardstock Journal Element Cards
as well as the "Alpha Love" 12x12

Jemma counterfeited Crate Paper's Sparked patterned paper, but substituted stars for hearts:
Jimjams - counterfeiting Crate Paper Sparked paper
  • Punch shapes from scraps, matching the colours in the rest of your kit
  • Punch shapes from an old book page
  • Stick them in curved rows onto a plain paper background with the minimum of glue
  • Using a small zig-zag stitch machine-sew them down!
Leslie has also changed up the hearts for a "Starstruck" kit. A handful of counterfeit papers plus some neat embellis were forged from the papers in the inspiration kits.

Lynnette dug out our her watercolor crayons and her daughter's Crayola paint box to create this easy counterfeit heart paper.  Check out her blog here to see the easy peasy process and how she used it on a page.

Well, there you have it, folks!  Now that you are seeing hearts and stars, try your hand at some of these fabulous tutorials.  We'd love to see YOUR creations over on Mr. Linky!
