interNational Scrapbook Day - 2024

Hello, hello, hello! Today is interNational Scrapbook Day! Are you ready to celebrate this favorite hobby of ours? Well then, let's dive right into what we have happening here for you!
We know iNSD is celebrated around the internet so we wanted to make our activities compatible with what you might already be doing. So let's dive in to our celebratory activity...

Queen Purge is on her way to purge your stash of your misfit scrappy items! In order to save them from her dastardly intentions, you must use FIVE of the items below on a single layout. For this challenge, two page layouts will count as one layout.
Each time you complete a layout using five different items from this list, your name will be dropped into our drawing for one of three gift cards to the Some Assemblage Required online shop. This means you have up to FIVE chances to get your name into the drawing!

Rules

  1. Master Forgers aren't allowed to compete for the drawing but will be here to help spur you on with their own creations from the list.

  2. You have to use 5 items from this list below on each layout without duplicating them. You will be able to get your name into the drawing 1-5 times during the month of May.

  3. Post your project pics to our Facebook group, or on Instagram. Either way, include the hashtag #CKCiNSD24 to be entered.

  4. This challenge ends promptly at NOON EST May 31st.

October 2023 - Forgery on the Fourth

Here's a reminder of our inspiration kit:

My Creative Scrapbook Kit Club - October 2022 Limited Edition

This feature is all about the fun of having a go at making up your own embellishments or re-creating the papers as a way of getting the same look as the inspiration kit even if you don't have any of the original items.

These tutorials are often so simple and easy that it really is a perfect chance to try out an idea or two. Make sure you share if you do, we love it when are motivated to give it a try!

Now it's time to see what our talented team have come up with - this is always such an inspiration for me. The Master Forgers often create things that would just not have crossed my mind.

So talented, so resourceful, so inspirational!

Lots of watercolor & mixed media layered looks to the papers & a slew of ephemera & cut-aparts in our inspiration kit.

Let's see what the Design Team has come up with!

Guest Designer Laurie created tickets, library cards and butterflies using stamps, punches, dies and inks.

Do you love the stuffed full ephemera packs from 49 & Market like the one in this month’s inspiration kit? Try this!!! Make Your Own Ephemera Pack!

While going stash diving for this kit, Master Forger Brandi realized was that a lot of collections have these colors in them, but nothing seemed to fit the kit as a whole pack … so she went through a dozen or so embellishment packs and pulled the pieces that matched her papers! To make this process a bit easier, pull aside a piece of paper to represent each color of your kit to quickly compare the ephemera, chipboard etc before adding it to the YES pile! This would also work if you wanted to use punches, dies, or even fussy cut elements out of pattern paper!

Of course, MF Lisa turned to Pinterest where she tracked down a couple of interesting tutorials and links!

Fred, She Said  - Digital Designs has a great step by step tutorial for making your own distressed Prima style flowers!  You can find the blog post here

Fred, She Said - Digital Designs tutorial here

Jennie at "Live The Dream" blog created stunning cabbage roses using a Tim Holtz die. You could use any die for this or even cut your own freehand! These look great. You can find the blog post here.

The Shabby Horse has a great blog tutorial for making realistic, distressed leaves. You can find the blog post here.

The Graphics Fairy has the most gorgeous set of free printable postage stamps along with all sorts of ideas for making them look authentically vintage and stampy for your paper crafts!

You have to check this out - just lovely! You can find them here.

Oh! My Fiesta In English! has a selection of free printable frames that could be a great stand-in for the frames in the original kit. All sorts of colours and designs, print them out, fussy cut and off you go! You can find the printables in this blog post here. Here's just one of many in the post.

Master Forger Misty got some watercoloring done, from the very simple coloring of die cuts...

To the very complex full pattern paper painting.

October 2023 - Just the Gist of It

Welcome back to our Just The Gist of It post where we hope to offer you a possible starting point for creating your kit.

Sometimes, we just don't know where to start or there is something about the kit that doesn't feel like us, but we still want to bring a selection of items together to form your own monthly kit. This is the post for you! Hopefully, you will find some inspiration to get you going.

Let's just remind ourselves about our inspiration kit this month:

My Creative Scrapbook Kit Club - October 2022 Limited Edition Kit

Lots of watercolor & mixed media layered looks to the papers & a slew of ephemera & cut-aparts in our inspiration kit. As I said yesterday in the reveal, I wanted to use another kit site than the usual plus a color scheme that will work for both ends of the globe in October :-)

Spring might take you lighter & brighter and Fall might shade the peachy/orange to a slightly deeper red on some of your selections. You can trade the flowers for leaves or butterflies for mushrooms! Both seasons bring a lot of outdoor activity so the nature theme should suit everyone.

Perhaps a look at some of the work produced by the inspiration kit club team will spark the direction you take your kit? Layering seems easy with the kit contents.

Some stenciling on the background...

Stitching adds so much + the matted page

Gorgeous beach page using the b-sides for mats & background

Some paint splatters in the background...

The stencil made an appearance in the background...

October 2023 - Counterfeit Kit Reveal and Blog Hop

Spring/Fall? Depends on your half of the globe!

Before we take a look at our inspiration kit I'd like you to meet our Guest Designer - a familiar face in our community!

Hello, I’m Laurie and I’ve been scrapbooking and enjoying this hobby for 30 plus years. My favorite stories to scrapbook are about our grandchildren and our travels. I live in Central NY with my husband, Henry, of 49 years, our cat, Harley and our Shih-Tzu/Maltese mix, Zoey. We have 3 children and 6 grandchildren ranging in ages 7-21. I joined the Counterfeit Kit Facebook group this past summer and am so glad I did. Everyone is so kind. I truly am excited to have been chosen as the Guest Designer for October and cannot wait to see what everyone else will be creating with their kits.

Now for the inspiration kit reveal! I normally prefer not to chose an older kit, but I wanted to use another kit site than the usual plus a color scheme that will work for both ends of the globe in October :-)  Spring might take you lighter & brighter and Fall might shade the peachy/orange to a slightly deeper red on some of your selections. You can trade the flowers for leaves or butterflies for mushrooms!

September 2023 - Challenge #2 - Just Having Fun!

September the 18th and it's time for Challenge #2 round here at the Counterfeit Kit Challenge and I'm excited to see how you interpret it.

As a reminder, Master Forger Tina chose the April 2023 kit called "Aurora" by {Not} Just for Boys kit club as our inspiration for this month.

Challenge #2 - Just Having Fun!

There are some of my favorite items in this kit especially the cutfile and the mist! So I want you to have fun creating using those items: Cutfile and Mist on your layout, card or project

Master Forger Misty really did have fun using her cut file and sprays!

Master Forger Christine loves the herringbone pattern so much, she used it as both a mat and in the cut file.  To create the "shadow" of the cut file word, she use the mist on the inner portion and offset it behind the main title.   What a fun color combo this is!

Master Forger Tara created a monochromatic layout for this challenge. She used the Family cutfile with a photo of her family taken on her wedding anniversary in 2018.  It was rare to have that many of their kids and their spouses in one location, so it was a photo op!!  There is a process video available on her YouTube channel here.

Master Forger Leslie went rogue with her cutfile & spray. I needed a small version of the Paige Evans freebie floral lightbulb cutfile so I printed the jpg version on cardstock, fussy-cut the background out, colored the floral with paint pens, and colored the lightbulb metal base with a Q Tip & my Lost Shadow Distress spray!

Master Forger Tina used both her spray from her kit and 2 of her cut files from her kit, plus a few more sprays from her stash for her layout for this challenge. Using a bunch of greens and browns from her kit.

The rest of September is going to look something like this:

  • 24th September: Follower Showcase - who has caught our eye this month
  • 30th September: Killing Kits - an idea or two for using up the bits & pieces left in your kit box
We always love to see your work, so please share your kits and projects with us. Post them in our Facebook Community, or share them on Instagram (we are @counterfeitkitchallenge or tag us using #counterfeitkitchallenge and #ckcseptember2023).

Thanks so much for stopping by! We can't wait to see your kits and projects this month!
