Welcome to the team!

I love these kind of posts!

I'm delighted to welcome Brandi and Christine as new Design Team members!

The Design Team call was a tough one with some great applications and I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who applied. But Brandi and Christine shone through and we are happy to have them join us as of May! So watch this space and check out their first Counterfeit Kit Challenge kits on 1st May, right here on the blog and of course, in our Counterfeit Kit Challenge Facebook community.

Hi! I’m Brandi, a full time mama to two little boys! I squeeze in as much time in my scrappy space as I can, they love playing with paper and stickers too, so we have lots of craft time! I’ve been scrapbooking since I was very young, late elementary school to be exact, and I just love having a creative outlet to store my photos and memories! You can find all my work on Instagram @scrappy.boymama

Brandi: https://www.instagram.com/scrappy.boymomma

I started scrapping about 22 years ago (almost 23 I guess now) when my daughter was small.  I fell in love with the creative process and while I document our lives, I do not scrap chronologically.  I enjoy working from inspiration - either a kit or a photo that strikes my fancy.  It's also fun because then I get to relive memories in no particular order.  My most common subject is my daughter, but I toss in a few of my cat and hubby.  (although the layouts I shared below none of them really feature my daughter!)  I live in Texas - born and bred, with no intention of ever leaving.  However, I do love to travel and we typically travel at Christmas every year.  I am not currently on any other design teams, although I do participate in 30 Days of Sketches with Christy's beautiful life and had a sketch featured this last round.  I work a full-time job and own a nutrition club, so my normal scrappy time is 4 am during the week.  If I'm lucky and there are no house chores, I "get" to scrapbook sometimes on the weekends.  :-)

Let's give these ladies a warm welcome and don't forget that MF Misty has one more post about Killing the Kit and then we are ready for a new month of inspiration, headed up by MF Julene!

See you in the community! 😀

Musings, news and a Counterfeit Kit Challenge Master Forger Design Team Call – July to December 2021

I’ve been part of the Counterfeit Kit Challenge team for a loooong time. I first joined in during March 2011 and joined the team that September. 10 years in the scrapbook challenge blogging world is a lifetime! I’ve seen a lot of changes here but it remains a constant in my scrapbooking life and I’m so happy that we are still here. Still making kits from products we have in our own stash that we love, still making layouts and projects, still finding inspiration in our photos and still here on the blog and in our FB community (here).

We are a low-key challenge community and I like that! It’s not frantic or frenetic round here. We stay true to our core "mission" which is to create kits and make pages and projects. You might say that we are still a bit old school – posting our kits and challenges over here on the blog but along the way, we have moved with the times a little and now our FB community is where all the interaction is. Where we share layouts and thoughts and a bit of chat! But I still like the fact that the blog remains chronological and that it can be a source of reference that’s easy to manage so the blog posts aren’t going anywhere.

But from time to time, we do have a behind-the-scenes heart-to-heart on where we are going, if we are still relevant, if we still love what we do. And so it happened this week. And YES! We still love what we do and we still want to keep on kitting and challenging and inspiring and creating!

The team at the Counterfeit Kit Challenge is fun, friendly and incredibly talented and I’m so, so grateful to have them as my crafting buddies. I love having them in my life and value each of them for their fabulous crafting, their friendship and their contributions to our community - both “front of shop” as well as behind the scenes. And so it breaks my heart all the more when we lose some of our “family” to pastures new. These team members are stepping down to concentrate on different adventures:

  • Master Forger Lori stepped down from the group in April and always amazed me with her ability to contribute to so many teams at the same time! Her kits were inspiring and her layouts fun and creative!
  • Master Forger Susan who has worked tirelessly behind the scenes for us on Instagram and our fantabulous monthly moodboards will move on at the end of the month
  • And Master Forger Clair who has delighted and astonished each month with her incredible micro-kits and simply gorgeous mini-projects will be leaving at the end of June.

I miss them already – more than they know. So a warm and heartfelt thank you to you for all that you’ve done for usand I hope you will still hang out here at CKC with us!

Which brings me to a happier part of this post:

Some news and a Counterfeit Kit Challenge Master Forger Design Team Call – 2020

The team at the Counterfeit Kit Challenge is fun, active and incredibly talented and I’m so, so grateful to have them as my crafting buddies. I love having them in my life and value each of them for their fabulous crafting, their friendship and their contributions to our community - both “front of shop” as well as behind the scenes.

Master Forger Susan has decided to step away from the creative activities of the CKC team, which means we will all miss her immense talent and kind words of support. Her projects have me ooo’ing and ahh’ing each and every month and she makes me want to be a better scrapper. But I’m thrilled that she will be staying with us in a support function helping us over on Instagram as well as creating the incredibly awesome mood boards each month for our sneak peeks.

Ex-Master Forger Clair has delighted us all for many months with her {Killing Kitsseries where she has inspired us all to use up those pesky little scraps and embellishments we find at the bottom of our kit box. Her videos and blog posts have offered simple but effective ideas which were easy to adapt to our own supplies. November will be her last month as she has decided to focus her energies in new directions! I wish her all the very best and hope we will see her over here at CKC from time to time. We miss her already.

So a warm and heartfelt thank you to both of you for all that you’ve done for us and I hope you will still hang out here at CKC with us!

Which brings me to a happier part of this post:

First up, I’d like to welcome two new members to the Counterfeit Kit Challenge team – drum roll…. Please join me in welcoming the fantabulous Shannon Allor and Tara O’Rourke who will officially start their CKC team work in January, but no doubt we will be seeing a lot of them until them as they begin to flex their counterfeiting muscles! We are beyond thrilled that they agreed to join us and I know that they will be a perfect fit for the group with their kit skills, not to mention their wonderful craftiness! Shannon will also be offering us ideas at the end of the month for using up our kits as she continues the {Killing Kitsseries as of January
.

Please join me in welcoming them both to our crafty family!

And that’s not all… we have space for ONE new Design Team member so…..

October 2019 - Counterfeit Kit Challenge Blog Hop & Kit Reveal

Hello lovely Counterfeiters. It's Laura at the helm and this month I've decided to head in a slightly different direction for our inspiration kit. I've been inspired by two things - 1) a kit I absolutely fell in love with and 2) something I recently saw on Instagram.

If you are a follower of Ali Edwards, you may have seen recently that she partnered up with Studio Calico to create a kit entitled ‘The Good Old Days’ where they released a 12x12 traditional scrapbooking kit and re-released some of Ali's older stamp sets. Ali then used the kit to go back to her hey-day and created some traditional 12x12 layouts with the kit. Great right?! Well this got me inspired to go with my gut and choose a kit that I absolutely just loved.

So my pick for October is the ‘Summer of ‘69 Kit' from Studio Calico and and ladies, it’s an oldie! Like 2012 old! However, I can honestly say that if they released this kit today I would totally want to buy it, and I feel it looks just as fresh and bright as it’s modern counterparts.

The kit includes some amazing 'old school' manufacturers like October Afternoon and Basic Grey - and I will bet any money that we have some in our stash somewhere - so have a rummage, find some of that older stash and use it up this month!

Our Guest Designer for October is the lovely Ayaan Nambier. Ayaan joins us each month on Instagram (@ayaan_scraps) and has a dedicated scrapbooking feed where she shows off her beautiful, colourful layouts!

"Hello everyone, my name is Ayaan and I live in India with my two daughters and husband. I'm a copywriter by profession and love to scrapbook, sew and read in my spare time. I started my scrapbooking journey with my first daughters birth in 2012. Scrapbooking isn't just a stress buster for me, it also helps me remember my memories so much clearer than I ever could. Although I do art journal and travellers notebooks from time to time, my first love remains the 12x12 layout. I've been counterfeiting kits along with the Counterfeit Kit Challenge since 2017 and I've enjoyed every minute of it. Hats off to the lovely ladies of the CKC team and thank you so much for having me as the guest designer this month. Here's to a happy scrappy time this month."

Pop on over to Ayaan's Instagram feed (and make sure that you follow her, so that you can see what she creates with her kit this month) then head back here to follow the rest of this month's blog hop!

  • October 2nd: I'll be back with a "Just the Gist" post to help jump-start your kit-making.
  • October 4th: We'll have our "Forgery on the Fourth" post where the Master Forgers will reveal how they created their own version of some of the items in this month's kit.
  • October 6th: We'll reveal a couple of mini-kits and projects, in case you're a little limited for time this month and would prefer a more petite kit.
  • October 12th & 18th: We'll give you two challenges to help you use the kit you've made.

September 2019 - Counterfeit Kit Challenge blog hop and kit reveal

Happy September everyone!

I love the start of a new month and September is the beginning of my favourite time of the year. This is the point where I start using my #watchmesmile and I swear I smile every day from now until the end of the year!

For September, I wanted to try something a little different and approached the lovely Khristina Sorge from the Secret Not Secret Kit Club (you can find details about her club online here).

Khristina has been offering curated, personalised kits for some time now and I knew that this would be a great change to our usual approach for a month when I was organising the kit.

I was delighted that she was on board right away and has actually created a unique, personalised kit JUST FOR US!

I'm so excited to share this with you today for your own inspiration using your own products. :-)

Here's the kit she's curated for us:

I love the fact that it's totally different to the kits we've had recently and I requested that it included some travel motifs because a) you know that I love travel themed stuff! and b) I think that this is the time of year when we can look back on summer adventures and start to record those memories if we haven't already.

The colour scheme is refreshing too after all the bright shades we've included recently and for those of you who like to make more masculine pages, this might be a good section for you too!

I think there's something here for everyone :-)

Khristina has also kindly given us a full list of kit contents so you can see exactly what's in this personalised Secret Not Secret Counterfeit Kit Challenge kit. I hope you find it useful when pulling together your own kit. You can take a look at most of the individual elements HERE

This summer, we even took them on a family version of The Amazing Race! I am also the kit curator/owner of The Secret Not Secret Kit Club as well as the new Kreative Cuts Club. We focus on customizable kits designed to fit your unique style, budget, and needs! We host monthly parties, in-person retreats, and online classes while focusing on encouraging friends to just create even if it’s only for fifteen minutes a day. I also create for several design teams and am so super excited to be joining your fun group for my birthday month!"

Now that I've piqued your interest with our wonderful kit and delightful Guest Designer, it's time to get hopping. Here's the full list for you:
