Mini Challenge: Sketch Inspiration

One of my guilty tv pleasures is Top Chef.  I love watching all of these talented chefs create these amazing meals out of their own heads!  Someday I would love to learn how to do that.  I enjoy cooking, but I pretty much need a recipe to get me started.  I add my own touches and change things to fit my families preferences, but it all starts with a recipe for me. (Check out my famous chocolate cookies, would you?)

I am the same way with scrapbooking.  If I can get some uninterrupted time and sit down for a while, I certainly can come up with my own scrappy creations.  Unfortunately, I don't always have that kind of time (or lack of interruptions with a husband, 2 kids, 3 cats and a dog!)  I always appreciate a little big of good old fashioned inspiration.  Sometimes it comes from a project on a blog or a gallery or magazine.  A lot of times it comes from a sketch.  Those are my go to recipes.  I have developed "crushes" on a few sketchy artists who really fit my style and offer sketches that I can really put my personal touch on!  One of my crushes in Allison Davis from Sketch Support.  There has been quite a buzz on 2 peas about how wonderful her sketch books are.  You can check out her wonderful sketches for yourself now on her new site Sketch Support!

I am excited to use one of her great sketches for our mini challenge today!  I think this sketch is fantastic because of the opportunity to get very creative with embellishements.

Sketch #2

Mini Challenge:  Use this sketch as your inspiration to create a layout (one or two pages) or even a card!  Make it your own by making it fit you and your style!  Then post a link showing us what you have created either on our blog or on our facebook page!

And before you all ask...here are some of my other "crushes" for your enjoyment!

  2. If you click on the words SKETCH #2 it will take you to their site. I wanted to post the sketch here, and tried to get permission, but they didn't get back to me about that.

  5. Going totally off the mark is not a bad thing, Tracy. :) I just use it as a guide and have fun with it. Sometimes I just copy and sometimes you wouldn't recognize the end product, but it gives me a starting off point. I hope you give it a try!

  8. I drew my own little version of the sketch so I could make a card. It's easier for me to see it if I draw it myself. I started with just a rectangle, then added the square for the photo/image. Then I just sketched in the bigger, main accents. In this case, it was the circles for the trees. I used buttons for my circles. The "hills" on the layout reminded me of scallops, so that is what I drew in my little sketch. It worked perfectly with my patterned paper, as I just cut along the design. HTH! :)
