Memories of Christmas Past by Lisa

Hi again! It's Lisa for the second time this month and I'm so happy to see you again.

Having mastered the art of a small kit for just a single page in my first Memories of Christmas past page, I had a rummage through my photo library for a suitable - very - old photo of myself because I'd like to try to get more of those order stories into my albums.

Then I dived into my older Christmas stash to find something that I thought went with the photo. BasicGrey (sniff sniff) won the day with this more recent collection but one that I thought had a vintage touch to it.

I picked out four sheets of paper, the stickers and letter sheet from the collection and then matched that up with two elements from the matching die cut pack, a flair that I think is from the collection and then some twine, gold thread, candy cane enamel dots and a sheet of Christmas words. Some of these items are really old. I went with the blues, greys and draft in the collection to tone down the bright reds in that 1970s photo!

I decided to layer up the papers and then get busy with the sewing machine and the gold thread. A few added sprinkles of embellishments as well as a limited space for my journalling (there's no story that either mum or myself can remember anyway) and my page was finished in under an hour. Again!

The trick for me was definitely picking out a really limited selection of products - even down to pre-choosing just one or two die-cuts - and a photo that I wanted to scrap before I started even thinking about the page itself. I made both this page and the one I highlighted on day 14 (here) including all product selection, on one evening before dinner. It feels good to have at least told two short Christmas stories from the vaults and to have used up just a few items from my ever-growing Christmas stash!

Daily scrapping is definitely a possibility, even in these busy times. I hope you've found something to inspire you with your own holiday memory keeping, whatever form that takes!

Come back tomorrow to see who I get the pleasure of highlighting in our member showcase post.

Lisa!

  2. Pink and Gold. BG and fussy cutting. The ubiquitous scene of sitting with Santa. What's not to love?
