January 2020 - Just the Gist of It

Welcome back to our January kit and to our feature where we offer some help if you're having problems knowing where to start in putting together your own kit.

Here's a reminder of this month's inspiration - the Citrus Twist December 2019

I picked this kit as it had a lot of festive designs that could give you a seasonal kit to start working on those Christmas photos you took just a few days ago but I also thought that it offered a lot in terms of non-christos elements such as the colours or patterns.

As I often offer colour schemes that you could base your own selection on, let me see if I can pull something different out of the kit this time around. And if you want to take this kit in a non-Christmas direction, you could focus on the non-paper elements of the kit.

Looking at the close up detail shots of the kit we can see some of the main design motifs of the kit:

  • leaves, trees, twigs and berries
  • wildlife such as deer, birds, bears
  • cosy home motifs such as gingham, lights, hot chocolate cups
  • home and family based words, snow globes, houses and calendars
  • embellishments such as word stickers, doilies, vintage book pages and pretty enamel dots

You could take any of these bullet points as your starting point or focus in on a couple - homely elements or woodland wildlife for example.

I hope you've been inspired today and we can't wait to see which direction the inspiration takes you!

Just a reminder that we'll be back throughout the month to give you some tipis, ideas and challenges as you put together and use your kit.

Here's what we have coming up this month:
  • January 4th:  We'll have our "Forgery on the Fourth" post where the Master Forgers will reveal how they created their own version of some of the items in this month's kit.
  • January 6th:  We'll reveal a couple of mini-kits and projects, in case you're a little limited for time this month and would prefer a more petite kit.
  • January 12th & 18th:  We'll give you two challenges to help you use the kit you've made.
  • January 24th:  I'll be showcasing one of the CKC community who's caught my eye this month
  • January 30th: We'll be offering another installment in our {Killing Kits} series to help you find ways to use up all of your kit.

We always love to see your work, so please share your kits and projects with us.
You can use our Monthly Link-up page, post them in our Facebook Community, or share them on Instagram (we are @counterfeitkitchallenge or tag us using #counterfeitkitchallenge and #ckcjanuary2020).

Thanks so much for stopping by! We can't wait to see your kits and projects this month!

  2. I love this kit. It's so versatile. If I didn't already have a Christmas themed kit, I'd definitely be making one up based on this month's inspiration!
