February 2024 - Forgeries on the Fourth!

 

Today, the Master Forgers are back to show you how to use your stash to make your OWN products inspired by our kit of the month! 

Before we get started, let's have another look at the inspiration kit:

  This feature is all about the fun of having a go at making up your own embellishments or re-creating the papers as a way of getting the same look as the inspiration kit even if you don't have any of the original items. 

These tutorials are often so simple and easy that it really is a perfect chance to try out an idea or two. Make sure you share if you do, we love to see it when are motivated to give it a go!

Now it's time to see what our talented team have come up with - this is always such an inspiration for me. The Master Forgers often create things that would just not have crossed my mind.

Master Forger Misty is up first with a few things.

First up she wanted to create something like the paper in the top left corner of the inspiration image. It has a mechanical vibe with some gears, numbers and machinery. While she didn't have imagery that was specifically alike to the inspo, she instead recreated the vibe with color, texture and fonts. All this was made using various stencils and ink, with lots of layering.

Next up, she wanted a nice bold striped paper, but didn't already have some. So she cut up some perfectly good whole papers, along with some scraps, and created her own stripes. After gluing those down to a base sheet, she had her own striped paper.

This seems like a very simple project, but there is a snag. The diagonal of pattern paper is longer than any edge of the paper square (that is geometry for you!). Additionally, most of our cutting tools do not reach the length required to make that nearly 17 inch diagonal cut. You can check out her video to see how she did it!

One final thing Misty wanted to share are two embellishment downloads– one free, and one for purchase.

First this freebie from ScrapbookandCards.com. You can find it on their bonus content page from the Fall 2023 issue of the magazine.

Next, Misty included this embellishment printable in her kit. It is the "sticker" sheet for purchase from Traci Reed's Hygge Collection kit. FYI, Misty just prints them on cardstock and cuts them out to create die cuts instead of stickers. 

It has a similar color palette to the inspo, but in a winter theme. There are even little mushrooms tucked in there like in the inspo kit!

Master Forger Tara created the blue brick patterned paper that was in the Inspiration kit for her own kit! She used a piece of grungy patterned paper by P13, a brick stencil from Scrapping Reflections, and some blue texture paste by Vicki Boutin in two shades of blue to create grungy and splotchy paper.  The link to watch MF Tara create this paper is below the photo!

Perhaps you love the woodgrain foam alphas in the Essentials kit, but don't have anything similar in your stash... enter the DIY Thicker! Master Forger Brandi will often use her Cricut to die cut letters and layer them up to give the illusion of thicker alphas (use white for the under layers to save your pretty papers!). However, she didn't have any readily available to share, so a quick google search on the topic landed her on an older blog post by fellow Master Forger Misty!
