Document December with Clair: My Project

I've been busy working with my Document December Kit this week (with some seasonal tunes blaring out on the radio) and I'm really starting to feel as though 'the holidays are coming'.

On a little nostalgia trip, I went through the over-stuffed box of photographs under my bed and pulled out any that felt like winter, or were definitely of a Christmas or New Year memory. I ended up with quite a substantial pile, with a mix of mainly 3x4 and 6x4 sizes. With this in mind, I cut most of my card-stock down to 6x8 - once you add a photograph and some journalling, you're nearly done in this size!

Now, rather than tackle each layout individually, I used the full length of my dining room table to spread out the 6x8 sheets. Then I laid out a photograph (or journalling card) on each sheet. I followed this with a few scraps of patterned paper, a couple of journalling spots, labels and embellishments - until each of the sheets looked as though it had enough 'stuff' on it.

Then I photographed each sheet with it's additions (I am so clumsy that this is a necessity in case of catastrophe!) and then I started working on each sheet individually.

I have no idea what made me decide to work in this way, but I will definitely be doing it again.  (I have a feeling that I'll be using this method a lot with mini-books too!) Having it all 'worked out' early on has meant that I can really concentrate on the journalling each time I start a new page - and I'm loving that I don't need to make decisions every time I sit down to finish a layout. That's such a relief after a long day at work!

I hope some of you will try this method out! Let me know if you do? I would be really pleased to know how it works out for you!

  1. This assembly-line approach is a great idea! I will definitely be giving it a try the next time I put together a mini-book. Cute page too - love that festive little tree!

  4. I really like the idea of laying it all out - I was working in PL pages yesterday which gave me a similar feeling. Love this and really hope you will share your final mini book of us to see how it all came together
