November 2018 - Just the Gist of It

Hello again, it's great to see you back here today.

Did you fall in love with our inspiration kit from Citrus Twist Kits (October 2018 - Little Things)? I'm sure you did!

But maybe you're not quite sure where to start? Do you pick out papers that match? Or start by looking at the gorgeous embellishments? Maybe you're finding the colours a little out of sync with what you had in mind for November?

"Just the Gist of It" aims to help you find the essence of the kit by identifying key elements that can be good jumping off points for you. We hope this will be useful when you start shopping your own stash.

This time around, I'd like to focus on the beautiful colours in the kit. Colour is what caught my eye in the first place when I was looking around for an inspiration kit and I used a very cool online service "Coolers" to make a colour palette from the main kit photo

Citrus Twist Kit - Little Things here

Look at those gorgeous pinks and violets along with aqua and a strong, bright yellow.

You could pick out just one of those colours to start off your kit and build it from there.

Or you could go for the "gallon, quart, pint" concept and pick out colours in a larger amount of one, a smaller amount of another and just a hint of a third.

What about making your own colour palette.

Or just look at the main photo and see what shades are catching your attention.

Colours can be a perfect way to start and this is probably the method I use the most as I almost never have any of the products in the original kits. What particularly appeals to me about creating my own colour palette is that you might find combinations you wouldn't normally bring together and I love to be stretched to try out new things. If you haven't tried that before, this month might be the time to.

And just because it's November, I'd like to offer you a second way to start thinking about your kit today.

You could pick out some of the main motifs featured and base your product choices around that.

My eye was drawn to :

hearts
rainbows
stars
florals
bows

See my colour coordinated arrows on the photo below!

I hope that helps you get going with your own creations - leave me a comment and let me know what your starting point was.

  1. I don't post often, but I want you to know that I love all your posts over here. So don't think a lack of comments is an indication of lack of interest.

  2. Lisa: This is an unexpected choice for November. Growing up in IL and returning to IL 15 years ago, I'm so use to the autumn colors of reds, browns, yellows, greens, and oranges to reflect turkeys and falling leaves. This month's kit colors are definitely NOT Midwest autumnal hues!!!! Thank you for pushing us to creatively ponder our hoards of crafting supplies into new realms of possibilities!!
