Hello! Hello! Are you ready for a challenge? This month's inspiration kit - the Paper Addict Kit from Mommyish - is all about our 'Passion for Paper' so for our first challenge of the month we'd like you to create a layout (or other memory keeping project) about a favourite hobby. Scrapbooking about scrapbooking isn't compulsory, of course, but it is fun!
Let's take a look at what our Guest Designer, Julie Kirk, and our DT have created!

Memory Keeping For A Stranger:
Alongside my passion for papercrafting, one of my favourite pastimes is rummaging for vintage treasures in junk shops and antiques fairs. And sometimes, if I’m very lucky, those interests combine in an exciting papery discovery! This page documents one such find: a vintage journal belonging to ‘Rosemary’ that I found at the bottom of an old tea-chest, with a title page declaring it contains ‘Some Favourites’. It’s basically a scrapbook of items important enough for Rosemary to have kept, including quotes, newspaper clippings, greetings cards and personal letters, which in turn is now something I want to keep - even though the memories it contains aren’t mine!
Inspiration taken from the original Mommyish ‘Paper Addicts’ kit that I interpreted on my layout include:
- the gridded background
- the small text print paper
- shades of yellow and pink (where the kit featured a duck-egg blue, I selected a few items in a deeper green to pick out the shade of the ribbon bookmarks from the vintage scrapbook)
- the mix of strong graphic alphas in my title
- a combination of journaling blocks and labels
Furthermore, all of the paperclip elements in the inspiration kit inspired me to finally cut into a gold paperclip print acetate I’ve had for years! Which in turn led me to introduce additional gold elements, like the word label and actual paper clips!
And, finally, there was an image of a paper plane in the original kit which gave me the perfect excuse to make a focal point of the lovely Vicki Boutin ‘Fly Away with Me’ paper plane paper from her ‘Let’s Wander’ range. The idea of using paper to send a message flying across time and space made perfect sense for capturing this particular story.
