July 2023 - Just the Gist of It

Welcome back to our Just The Gist of It post where we hope to offer you a possible starting point for creating your kit. 

Sometimes, we just don't know where to start or there is something about the kit that doesn't feel like us, but we still want to bring a selection of items together to form your own monthly kit. This is the post for you! Hopefully, you will find some inspiration to get you going.

Let's just remind ourselves about our inspiration kit this month:

Mercy Tiara Kits Feeling Groovy Main Kit

This is the inaugural kit for Mercy Tiara Kits. I was highly excited to see a new kit club! This first kit offered is a wonderfully bright, playful & funky kit thanks to a focus on Jen Hadfield's Flower Child collection. Vicki Boutin's Where To Next?, Maggie Holmes' Woodland Grove, and Pink Fresh Studio's Spring Vibes all play supporting roles. There is a lot of green in the kit but it plays nicely with the retro rust, orange & harvest golds. 

Your first option is to decide if the overall feel of the kit appeals to you. Often the color scheme might be too bold or too pale - change it up to what you intensity you personally like. Remember, the idea is to build a kit that you will use throughout the month. If the theme is not speaking to you, keeping close to the color scheme still conveys the look of the inspiration even if your motifs are different.

 

I always start with the papers as patterned paper is my favorite scrappy supply!  It's fun to do a stash dive looking for a close "match", but don't forget to look at each paper as an opportunity to create your own "forged" version. Maybe you will use stamps, fussy cut elements for the large floral, or even washi tape for some of the striped patterns.

Sticker sheets, enamel dots & alphas are often easy to choose from your stash. In this kit a wonderful counterfeit would be a selection of frames similar to the pack from PinkFresh Studio.

Maybe you need to build your kit for a specific project of your own that doesn't relate to the inspiration kit. Use the general contents of the kit like a list to build your own.

If you always use certain items to create that aren't included in the inspiration kit, toss them into yours! You want everything at hand to keep you rolling along throughout the month.

And finally make the rounds of the Reveal Hop for inspiration. Often the Master Forgers will provide a new direction that may just suit you to a T.
