March 2026 - Challenge #1 - Watercolor Magic

Are you ready for your first challenge of the month?  Let me remind you of our inspiration kit again:

Cocoa Daisy February 2026 kit - Inklings

Our first challenge of the month is....Watercoloring Magic!  If you love mixed media or would like to learn, THIS is the challenge for YOU!  Bring out your watercolor paints, tubes, pencils and create a background or some embellishments for your layout!  If you don’t love mixed media, never fear!  You can use pre-made watercolor elements in your kit on your layouts!

Guest Designer Neyla really took this challenge to heart and created not one, but FOUR layouts using watercoloring!!  She rocked this challenge!!!

For this first layout, she added white texture paste and allowed it to fully dry.  Then she started adding watercolors using the packaging technique as well as adding the watercolors directly to the background to get more color saturation.

For this layout, Neyla used the paper she created for Forgeries on the Fourth.  To create this background, she added gesso to her cardstock and blew the watercolors around using a straw to direct them where she wanted them to go.

The background for this layout wasn't prepped at all before applying the watercolors using the packaging technique.  Once the background was dry, Neyla scattered her embellishments tone-on-tone.  This is an excellent way to use lots of different manufacturers and collections on one layout.

Neyla created this last layout as a bonus layout, showing how to create a watercolor sunburst using a sketch created by Scrapbook Generation.

Master Forger Laurie

I started out by water-coloring my background paper in varying shades of blue. I did use watercolor paper. I then stenciled over that and added gold splattering. I stamped, water-colored and die cut the flowers and leaves.

Master Forger Misty

Misty used some subtler techniques. She did two watercolor resists (title & Pee-Chee embellishment) as well as simple splattering.

Master Forger Tara

I created a watercolor background using Versamark ink, a background stamp, and UTEE to create resist and then used my Magical Powders from Lindy’s to do the watercolor effect.  You can watch my process video HERE

Let’s take a look at some detail shots of this beautiful watercolor resist background:

February 2024 - Challenge #1 - Make It Messy!

Have you been creating with your kit? If not, I hope a challenge is the motivation you need to pull it out and start playing!

One of the fun things about the NJFB kits is the inclusion of mixed media products! There’s a spritz in the main kit, plus additional goodies in the Essentials add-on kit. As a reminder, here are both the Limitless kit and the Add-On Essentials for November Rain.

So, break out those mixed media goodies & make it messy by using at least two different mediums on your project!
First up, we have our talented Guest Designer sharing her layout for the challenge!

GD Jessica says this about her layout:

I thought to create an ink smooshed background with my die cut tags!

I used a mix of blue Distress products with the plaid stencil by Vicki Boutin and brightened things up with gold stencil butter, gold sequins and gold metallic cardstock! I built layers on my background using the elements stamp set from Stamperia.

I really liked the “ALL BOY” Acrylic Embellishment by Paige Evans so I designed a similar style in Cricut Design Space for my title. I also cut out the number 3 in the same style and a few little pennants to use as a banner.

I had such fun participating in this challenge! You can watch the full process video of how it all came together on my YouTube channel. I hope you were inspired to add a little mixed media to your projects. Follow me on Instagram and my website for more inspiration, techniques, and freebies. Thanks for having me!

Master Forger Tara says that playing with mixed media is one of her favorite things to do! For this layout, she used a sketch created by Rochelle Spears for her kit club:  The Scrap-Room.  This layout features photos of MF Tara and her little sister being goofy!

If you'd like to watch Master Forger Tara's process video for this layout, you can view that HERE.

Master Forger Tina loves to play with the things that make a layout a bit messy. Using both Lunar paste in a stencil and some Distress ink for splatters she created this layout:

You can see more about the layout here at Tina's blog

Master Forger Brandi loves making a big mess playing with all sorts of fun products! For this layout, she used a crackle mousse from Nuvo through a stencil, along with a mix of Distress Inks. She finished off the background with a few splashes of Distress Oxide Spray. Lots of layered embellishments complete her layout. Check out close ups on her Instagram here.

Master Forger Vikki is one of our brand new team members! Please give her a warm welcome as she shares her first official layout for us! She played along with the mixed media challenge by using a brayer with Distress Inks and stenciled with texture paste.

We're also welcoming Master Forger Jody to the team today! For her messy layout, she used Distress Inks, Oxides & Sprays, as well as some Nuvo Mousse in Indian Gold.

Here's what we have coming up for you for the rest of the month! Please come back and see what else we have in store for you!

June 2020 - Challenge #2 Mixed Media

Master Forger Tara here with you again today with yet another challenge to help you use your June CKCB Kit!  Today, I am asking you to put on play clothes and get messy with me!!  Your challenge is to play with mixed media:

Create a layout using some form of mixed media.  It can be very simple.  Stamp an image and watercolor it.  Texture paste your background or an embellishment.  Just have fun and enjoy!

This does NOT have to be scary or intimidating!  Mixed media comes in so many forms and you can get as messy as you'd like or just keep it very simple by making a watercolor element for your page!  There are NO RULES in art and yes, scrapbooking is an art form!

Let's see what your Master Forgers have created this month!  I bet we have some great eye candy for you!!

Master Forger Leslie
had crafted the "imagine" embellishment for her kit during the May ScrapHappy Beatles-themed layout a day challenge, but had mislaid it for her kit reveal. It surfaced & played nicely with  her mixed-media forged paper & the lyrics speak to her heartache about the strife in the world the past few weeks. The tag gave a place to record her thoughts for this page in her Covid-19 journal.

Master Forger Tracey
Decided to use an old photo of herself as a teenager as she was dying to use the rainbow she created for the Forgery on the Fourth. She created her mixed media back ground with some colour sprays and a stencil with colour paste.

Master Forger Laura

Master Forger Laura used digital pain, ink, and stamps to create a lovely background for her layout!  And what a sweet kitty!!!

Master Forger Tara

Master Forger Tara got right to work creating a background with texture paste, a stencil, and Distress ink pads.  She used a recent photo of her and her husband Pat on their wedding anniversary on the layout she created with her mixed media background! For more information and details you can head over to her blog here!
