June 2025 - Challenge #3 - Let's Get Sketchy!!!

Our third challenge of each and every month is always a sketch challenge. First let me remind you of the our inspiration kit:

This month, I am using the 30 Days of Sketches, Series 18, Day 22 sketch.  This sketch was created by Fatima Oliveira Avila.

You can use this sketch anyway you'd like. If you aren't a two page scrapbooker, just pick one side.  Add more photos if you like.  This is an awesome sketch and I am excited to use it!

Master Forger Ryann

went about this sketch very differently than she usually does.  She had her kit and wanted to use up the black glittery chipboard letters, but then realized that there were hardly and left.  There were some v's, z's, j's, a p, and other random letters, and a u.  After playing with the letters for a while, she came up with "jump" - so then she looked for photos that would go with that title!  She has had that shaped paper on the right in her stash for more years that she wants to admit, so she wanted to use that up, too.  When she found the photos of her son playing basketball, she knew it would be perfect!  She added an extra photo onto the page, and used a couple of pens to color the "32" on the right.  She really had a ton of fun making this layout and loves how it turned out!

Master Forger Tina

Was inspired by the sketch to use that wood pattern paper that was in her kit for a layout of one of the Covered Bridges she saw. Using the sketch for her background but added a few more pictures than called for. Using the nature embellishments for the layout too.

Let's check out what we have for you for the rest of the month:

    January 2025 Challenge #3 Let's Get Sketchy

Master Forger Christine here and it's time again to get sketchy!

This challenge is all about taking a sketch for inspiration and interpreting it with your kit.  Here's our inspiration kit as a reminder.  It's the Hip Kit "Good Times Ahead".

And here is the sketch I created to play with!  This can be done as a 12x12, 8.5x11, a card or anything else you desire.

Let's see what our Master Forgers did with it!

Master Forger Tara created a fast layout of one of her kitties from 2016. She created a large title with a Bramble Fox Perspective and the alphas she included in her kit.  She also did a little stenciling on her background and added some hand stitching.

Master Forger Ryann says that while she knows that the dots on the sketch were meant to represent another patterned paper, she couldn't help but think this would be a great way to use up several odds and ends of enamel dots that she put in her kit!  She used them to make the general shape of the banner ends, and filled in with the last of several pages of embellishments!

    Master Forger Jody

I had so much fun putting this January Kit together.  I immediately grabbed the older Dear Lizzy, She's Magic collection.  I loved all the layers in the sketch and I always love using my faux stick stamps!

Let's not forget our Guest Designer Jennifer Cain!  She decided to play along with the sketch challenge as well.  Jennifer used a rose gold embossed background paper as well as a few scraps from other layouts.   She brought in the purple from her stash since the layout just called for it.  As a finishing touch, she did stamp stitching around the edge and flat back pearls to dress up the layout.  You can watch her process video here.

And here's what's left this month:

    • 24th January - Follower Showcase
    • 28th January - February Sneak Peek (on Instagram and the Facebook Community
    • 30th January - Challenge #4 Baby, Use Those Scraps Challenge

    Til next time!

    XOXO,
    Master Forger Christine

October 2024 Challenge #3 Get Sketchy

Welcome back for our third challenge of the month! This one's always a sketch challenge to help get your creative juice flowing!

As a reminder, here's our inspiration kit for the month, An Autumn Tale: Chilly Breeze

This is the sketch I chose to work with this month. Remember, a sketch is just a jumping off point, you don't have to follow it exactly, or you can do whatever works for you. Just have fun with it!

Master Forger Ryann is working on her son's Boy Scout Career scrapbook, as he has just achieved Eagle Scout.  This is a layout from one of his first award ceremonies when he was 6 years old.  The denim in the kit really worked with this layout!

Master Forger Tina is working on her 2023 photos and used a walk that she did in the Fall for her layout

Master Forger Julene created this beautiful layout based upon the sketch!

    September 2024 - Challenge #3 Let's Get Sketchy

Welcome back for our third challenge of the month! This one's always a sketch challenge to help get your creative juice flowing!

As a reminder, here's our inspiration kit for the month, Daily Journal by Cocoa Daisy

I created a brand-new sketch just to use with this kit this month! Here's the sketch to work with & I of course had to play along! For my layout, I added some texture paste and shimmery sprays to a pre-made Vicki Boutin background piece and I love how it turned out!

I encourage you to get a little bit messy & creative with the background! Add texture! Have fun!

Our Guest Designer Amy Jo played along with our sketch challenge and here's what she had to say:

"I always have a hard time using these graphic background papers but decided to give it a try seeing the background of the sketch.
For the flower clusters I used up a bunch of small leftover pieces of patterned papers from previous layouts this month…jumpstart on using up the scraps!!"

Master Forger Tara used some ink smooshing and stenciling with two shades of Distress Oxide ink for some fast mixed media. She let the black and white floral pattern on her patterned paper do most of the heavy lifting along with two chipboard frames and some ephemera from her kit. It made for a pretty fast but textural layout.

Master Forger Vikki created this beautiful layout based upon the sketch!

We're not done yet! Here's a look at what's still to come for September.

    August 2024 - Challenge #3 Sketch - Let's Get Sketchy

Master Forger Jody here with our monthly sketch challenge. Let me remind you of the Inspiration Kit that I chose for August:

This is the sketch I chose to work with this month.Remember, a sketch is just a jumping off point, you don't have to follow it exactly, or you can do whatever works for you. Just have fun with it!

Guest Designer Sarah Rouault created this layout using the sketch! It is so adorable!

Now, let's see how our Master Forgers used this sketch:

I used some chipboard circles that I painted green. Behind my photo is a scrap of dotted paper so I added some sploshes of mist in purple to make my layout dottier. I highlighted my photo of myself and the tamarins using a clear frame (vellum) that says,"You and I".

Master Forger Misty loved this sketch and had the perfect idea right away. Since mica watercolor paints were in her kit this month, she put those to use creating the circles.

    Master Forger Cindy

I used the Hexagon dies that were included in my kit this month for substitutions of the circles. I fussy cut around the birds tail so that I would not cut it off with the dies. I love this bird paper; it makes a great accent for outside pictures.  I also had a hexagon piece that I used on the top right side, with the inside hexagons being used as accents around my pictures.

Now, let's see what we have lined up for the rest of this month:

    • 24th August - Follower Showcase
    • 28th August - September Sneak Peek (on Instagram and the Facebook Community)
