Killing Kits - Shipping Labels & Tags.

Hello Counterfeiters. We're nearing the end of the month, so I'm back with a few 'Killing Kits' ideas to help you finish of some of those kit leftovers and this month I wanted to focus on shipping labels and tags, which I see included in both 'traditional' kits and those made with Traveller's Notebooks or Project Life in mind. And, if you don't already have some in your stash, you can easily cut down some basic cardstock and try out these ideas for yourself!

Now, whilst I think that one of the commonest uses of a shipping label is as a journalling spot, Ali Edwards took that idea, ran with it, and came up with something truly amazing. This layout has been in my favourites for such a long time - and I don't think I'll ever stop loving it. It's such a fantastic way to make the 'story' the main focus (in fact, the only focus) of the layout.

This next layout from Marivi Pazos couldn't be more different, but I love that the difference in the labels adds to the overall effect, so that the 'title' is contrasted.

Finally, this layout from Shanna Noel uses *so* many labels and tags on one layout - and I think it's fantastic. Shanna has covered her entire base with different labels, finding some balance between the different styles and colours - and has even taken some of them off the edge of the layout, to make sure that there's no empty space. (Not one for our 'white space' scrappers!) I love how she's used the labels as spots for her smaller photos and journalling - and maybe this has helped her to use up those with titles or graphics that wouldn't normally be in her own style?

If you have your own favourite way of using these items in your own scrapbooking, please let us know in the comments below. Or, if you are still in need of ideas for your kit leftovers, you can check out the full Killing Kits Series or head over to the Counterfeit Kit Facebook Community where the Master Forgers and our friendly followers will be happy to help!

September 2019 - Follower Showcase

I've been amazed this month at so many gorgeous layouts and projects being shared by you all but one member caught my eye in particular and made me go wow!

I'd like to highlight Autumn Brown who has created her first Counterfeit Kit Challenge kit ever and also challenged herself with using her electronic die cutting machine and shopping her own stash for a full project rather than going out and getting new stuff! Yay for shopping and loving your stash - there's so much to enjoy right there in your own craft room.

Her kit is great and I saw a lot there that would be perfect for my own pages! I can't believe it's her first kit.

And then she got stuck right in during a Simple Scrapper online crop and created some beautiful travel pages that just shout out lovely happy memories!

As you know, I love travel pages so they caught my attention right away.

And look how she used the die cut car outline shapes for her journalling! A genius idea and something I'll be stealing for myself ;-)

Autumn told me, "For the car, I used this template (free from Pixel Scrapper) with a 15 pixel inside stroke. I made the interior transparent and saved as a jpg. Then I cut the file.
I was surprised how easy it was."

It's great to have you with us Autumn, I can't wait to see what else you create this month and in months to come!

You can find Autumn's kit and layouts right there in our Counterfeit Kit Challenge Facebook community (find it here) along with a whole bunch of other gorgeous kits and pages from members and team alike. Inspiration galore so why not check it out and share the love!

We'll be offering a sneak peek of the new October kit in the next few days but don't forget that there's still time to check out the blog and FB community to see what we have to share with you this month!

We always love to see your work, so please share your kits and projects with us.

September 2019 - Challenge #2 - Back to School!

It's the 18th which means time for Challenge #2.

First, here's a reminder of the personalised, curated kit we're using as our September inspiration courtesy of the Secret Not Secret Kit Club and if you missed the reveal and kit info at the beginning of the month, why not head back to our blog hop on the 1st here? You're never late round here so just jump right in and get kitting.

Challenge #2 - Back to School

In the UK, September always marks the start of the new school year and whenever I see September on my calendar, my mind goes back to that time of my life. The low-lying sun, the misty mornings, the beginning of autumn, the smell of new school supplies, the familiar sights and sounds as we all piled back into the classroom.

Be inspired by this "back to school" feeling!

Our Master Forgers have been busy so let's see where their inspiration took them this time.

MF Leslie had the perfect subject, plus an add-on kit with a school theme.

Blog post HERE

For MF Laura, September marks the start of a new year with it being her birthday. So she chose to document that new year feeling!

MF Lisa got a little nostalgic with a newer photo to tell a story from many many years ago. She's getting creative in how she records her school memories as she only has a handful of photos from that time.

You can find out more details on her blog here

There is still time to be inspired and later this month we will be back with the following:
  • September 24th:  I'll be showcasing one of the CKC community who's caught my eye this month
  • September 30th: We'll be offering another installment in our {Killing Kits} series to help you find ways to use up all of your kit.

We always love to see your work, so please share your kits and projects with us.

September 2019 - Challenge #1 - "Curate" your project!

Welcome to Challenge #1 when we hope to inspire you to jump into your own kit and get creating. Join in and share your own take on either of our challenges (#2 is up on the 18th).
Our inspiration kit for September courtesy of the Secret Not Secret Kit Club (Redefined Kreative)

Today I'd like you to "curate" your own project!

As you know, we are working with a curated kit this month which is rather exciting, When I looked up the meaning of "to curate" in the dictionary, I found this definition.

verb (used with object), cu·rat·ed, cu·rat·ing.

to take charge of (a museum) or organize (an art exhibit)
to pull together, sift through, and select for presentation, as music or website content
I love the idea of pulling together some sort of exhibit or collection - isn't that what we do with our memories all the time in this wonderful hobby of ours?

Be inspired by this definition in some way for your own project.

Let's see what Guest Designer Khristina as well as Master Forgers Cindy, Lori and Tina have in store for us today!

Here's what Guest Designer Khristina had to say about this prompt:

"Khristina here and I'm so excited to be guest designing this month as well as providing the inspiration kit for everyone to work with! This has been such a fun experience and I cannot wait to see what each of you comes up with for this first challenge.

When I read the challenge to use the definition of curate as an inspiration spark, it immediately made me think of gallery walls that you might find in your home. These walls are often a custom curated set of images, text, and artwork that has meaning to you and your family or follows your decorating theme.

I decided to run with that idea and found this particular gallery wall to use as inspiration in my Pinterest folder. I included the same types of elements on my scrapbooking layout making sure to use things that would bring texture, balance, and unique characteristics to telling this story of my son on a recent camping trip.

I hope that you will stop by blog (post here) as well as my You Tube channel (link in blog post) to check out even more about how this project came together. I cannot wait to see your version!"

Find out more on Khristina's blog here

MF Cindy documented family wedding pictures through the generations for her son's wedding.

You can find more here

MF Lori created a layout documenting her son's Spiderman collection from when he was 4 years old (he is now 21!).

You can read all about it here.

MF Tina documented an Easter Egg Hunt that she pulled together for the Grandchildren

You can see more about this layout here

MF Leslie finally managed to document a few carefully selected photos of their "new" city.

September 2019 - Mini Kit Reveal and Projects

Are you feeling overwhelmed by the idea of a big kit this month?

Perhaps you just want to pull together a few products to get those creative juices flowing again.

Maybe a mini kit is the answer!

Today we'll be sharing a couple of mini kits and projects to give you a little inspiration.

First, here's a reminder of the personalised, curated kit we're using as our September inspiration courtesy of the Secret Not Secret Kit Club

Susan began assembling her mini-kit by picking up on the constellation/zodiac paper in the inspiration kit.  She next chose a diagonal stripe and then filled in the rest of the kit with colors in those same shades.  Here's her kit (the papers are all from various 6"x6" paper pads):

As usual, she couldn't resist including plenty of pink but that's the beauty of making your own kits - you can add what you like and know you will use!

Here are the pages she made with her mini-kit:

MF Julene made up a mini kit concentrating on the black and white theme, plus adding aeroplanes and travel embellishments.

From her kit she has made these 2 pages, both featuring Las Vegas.

We'll be back soon with more challenges and inspiration for you to use up your kit!

September 2019 - Forgery on the Fourth

The Secret Not Secret Kit Club has custom curated our kit for the September Counterfeit Kit Challenge!

Lisa's criteria for our kit included the following:

'September is the end of summer - a whiff of autumn in the air. Maybe something a little more muted - not grungy though! Love some nature elements, fun embellis & something a little unexpected. Looking back on summer holidays is a good time to feature travel elements.'

As you get into the details of this kit there is more color than one might think at first glance, especially from the Vicki Boutin elements. The kit starts with a cool color palette & there are lots of black accents, so the pops of bright color make great accents.

Here's a look at what the Design Team counterfeiters came up with to inspire you!

Here is a free viewfinder cutfile:

Download HERE

MF Lisa - as always - took the easy route for some look-alike epoxy elements. After embossing some elements in white and punching these out, she offset them on some white cardstock and then covered them in Mod Podge Dimensional Magic.

With more care, patience (to price out the bubbles for example) and attention, they would be really successful! You can find more details over on her blog here.

You could also make an even easier version of these if you had some clear epoxy stickers that you could place on the top of paper circles!

She also put her trusty Silhouette Cameo to good use to reproduce the die cut viewfinders and the airplane element.

This is what it looked like on her design template before cutting.  It took her some time to work out how to create the plane element but after a bit of looking online for tips and tricks to produce the outline effect, it turned out really successfully. By trying out embellishments such as this, her knowledge of using the Cameo is growing all the time - win/win!

She purchased her plane design through the Silhouette store, but CraftStarters.com has a set of plane shapes for free (see here)

You can find more details about this month's makes over on her blog here.

A quick search on Pinterest.com brought up lots of free electronic die cutting files for words to produce your own set of embellishments such as in the inspiration file and you can see what Lisa did to make up her own sets in previous kits here and here

She also found this online tutorial for making your own. It's in Spanish but even though she doesn't speak a word, the process is very clearly shown - ha ha! - https://youtu.be/EJB8VtNVNKk

MF Leslie had a lot of forging fun this month!

Blog post HERE

And like Leslie, MF Laura also made her own digital versions of some of the papers to use with her digi kit.

"I absolutely love the Heidi Swapp Wolf Pack collection, so was really excited to see some in the kit. My version of the tree paper is actually from an Echo Park Fall line, and originally was beautiful shades of orange and green. I simply opened the digital file in the basic photo gallery on my computer, picked the edit button and then used the basic sliders the play around with the colour. I desaturated it with a preset filter and then played around with the other slider settings to bring a bit of colour back. I like how it turned out."

MF Cindy forged a couple of the papers and a few more elements

You can see more on her blog here.

There's more to come this month as we aim to give you some tips, ideas
and challenges as you put together and use your kit.

September 2019 - Just the Gist of It

Hi there. I'm back with Just the Gist of It where we hope to help you find a "way in" to our monthly kit if you're feeling a little unsure about where to start when pulling together your own set of supplies.

Here's a reminder of the kit we're showcasing this month. It's a personalised, curated kit from the Secret Not Secret Kit Club and you can find more photos and a full list of kit contents in yesterday's blog hop/reveal post here.

When Khristina asked me for ideas about the kit I'd like her to curate for the Counterfeit Kit Challenge, I came up with the following list of preferences:
  • September is the end of summer and there is a whiff of autumn in the air
  • Muted colours but not grungy
  • Plenty of embellies
  • Something unexpected
  • Travel, nature and city themed elements
To be honest with you, this seems like a perfect way to start shopping your own stash. Look through your own supplies with this short list in mind and see where it takes you this month!

Or just pick one item from the list and start from there.

Just a reminder that we'll be back throughout the month to give you some tipis, ideas and challenges as you put together and use your kit.

Here's what we have coming up this month:
  • September 4th:  We'll have our "Forgery on the Fourth" post where the Master Forgers will reveal how they created their own version of some of the items in this month's kit.
  • September 6th:  We'll reveal a couple of mini-kits and projects, in case you're a little limited for time this month and would prefer a more petite kit.
  • September 12th & 18th:  We'll give you two challenges to help you use the kit you've made.
  • September 24th:  I'll be showcasing one of the CKC community who's caught my eye this month
  • September 30th: We'll be offering another installment in our {Killing Kits} series to help you find ways to use up all of your kit.

September 2019 - Counterfeit Kit Challenge blog hop and kit reveal

Happy September everyone!

I love the start of a new month and September is the beginning of my favourite time of the year. This is the point where I start using my #watchmesmile and I swear I smile every day from now until the end of the year!

For September, I wanted to try something a little different and approached the lovely Khristina Sorge from the Secret Not Secret Kit Club (you can find details about her club online here).

Khristina has been offering curated, personalised kits for some time now and I knew that this would be a great change to our usual approach for a month when I was organising the kit.

I was delighted that she was on board right away and has actually created a unique, personalised kit JUST FOR US!

I'm so excited to share this with you today for your own inspiration using your own products. :-)

Here's the kit she's curated for us:

I love the fact that it's totally different to the kits we've had recently and I requested that it included some travel motifs because a) you know that I love travel themed stuff! and b) I think that this is the time of year when we can look back on summer adventures and start to record those memories if we haven't already.

The colour scheme is refreshing too after all the bright shades we've included recently and for those of you who like to make more masculine pages, this might be a good section for you too!

I think there's something here for everyone :-)

Khristina has also kindly given us a full list of kit contents so you can see exactly what's in this personalised Secret Not Secret Counterfeit Kit Challenge kit. I hope you find it useful when pulling together your own kit. You can take a look at most of the individual elements HERE

"Hi friends! I am Khristina and I live in Arizona with my husband and three adventurous kiddos. We love to travel and have both big and small adventures! This summer, we even took them on a family version of The Amazing Race! I am also the kit curator/owner of The Secret Not Secret Kit Club as well as the new Kreative Cuts Club. We focus on customizable kits designed to fit your unique style, budget, and needs! We host monthly parties, in-person retreats, and online classes while focusing on encouraging friends to just create even if it’s only for fifteen minutes a day. I also create for several design teams and am so super excited to be joining your fun group for my birthday month!"

Now that I've piqued your interest with our wonderful kit and delightful Guest Designer, it's time to get hopping. Here's the full list for you:
