September 2024 - Challenge #4 Baby, Use Those Scraps

Welcome to the final challenge of September with the Counterfeit Kit Challenge blog! As a reminder, our inspiration kit this month has been Daily Journal by Cocoa Daisy.

As always, we like to finish out the month with a use those scraps challenge! It's as simple as that: use any scraps from your kit this month on a new project! For me personally, I do this all month long, I am always trying to use up my scraps as I go! For my challenge-specific layout, I opted to use some paper strips and a tag die with some of the smaller pieces left in my kit!

Master Forger JoJo made this layout of her youngest granddaughter using her scraps and a 1"3/4 square punch. She did some pen stitching to the squares and she even added 2 paper border branding strips and then embellished it.

& that's all for me! Come back tomorrow as Master Forger JoJo takes the reins for the first time with a brand new inspiration kit for October!

September 2024 - Follower Showcase

Hi there! It's time for our Follower's Showcase. Selecting just one person to be our follower of the month is incredibly challenging. Each of our members bring a unique talent to our community, making it difficult to choose just one. We're inspired by the creativity of all our followers.!
Just as a reminder let's take another look at our Inspiration kit: Daily Journal from Cocoa Daisy!

And now, without further ado... our featured follower is Diana Vanderleest!

Here's a little bit about her & why she enjoys playing along with the CKCB:

"I am a wife, celebrating 45 years this December; a mom to a son and a daughter and their partners & Nana to 7 amazing kids. I work fulltime at hospital laundry and after all that my passion is crafting, especially scrapbooking. I have been journaling for most of my life and I started scrapbooking in the very early 90s. I love taking pictures. I love making 12x12 layouts. I also do a yearly journal album to document the day to day for our family. I love experimenting with different mixed media. I like making embellishments. I love sketches and scrap-lifts, usually putting my own twist on them. Pinterest is my big "go to" I love all kinds of paper and ephemera, so much so that I wouldn't be able to choose a favorite company or line. I like something in all of them. This is why I am so happy I discovered CKC! I get to put things from different lines together and figure out how to make it work. I love the monthly challenges. I love the community! You all are super encouraging and wow, I love everybody's work! I like to scroll through slowly and admire all the art. I find inspiration in every single one. Thank you for letting me join. I'm loving it, even though I don't always have much time to play. Have a great day!!

and here are a few of her projects alongside her monthly kit!

We hope you'll stick around for the rest of September! We've got just a little bit more up our sleeves!

September 2024 - Challenge #3 Let's Get Sketchy

Welcome back for our third challenge of the month! This one's always a sketch challenge to help get your creative juice flowing!

As a reminder, here's our inspiration kit for the month, Daily Journal by Cocoa Daisy

I created a brand-new sketch just to use with this kit this month! Here's the sketch to work with & I of course had to play along! For my layout, I added some texture paste and shimmery sprays to a pre-made Vicki Boutin background piece and I love how it turned out!

I encourage you to get a little bit messy & creative with the background! Add texture! Have fun!

Our Guest Designer Amy Jo played along with our sketch challenge and here's what she had to say:

"I always have a hard time using these graphic background papers but decided to give it a try seeing the background of the sketch.
For the flower clusters I used up a bunch of small leftover pieces of patterned papers from previous layouts this month…jumpstart on using up the scraps!!"

Master Forger Tara used some ink smooshing and stenciling with two shades of Distress Oxide ink for some fast mixed media. She let the black and white floral pattern on her patterned paper do most of the heavy lifting along with two chipboard frames and some ephemera from her kit. It made for a pretty fast but textural layout.

Master Forger Vikki created this beautiful layout based upon the sketch!

We're not done yet! Here's a look at what's still to come for September.

September 2024 - Challenge #2 A Pop of Black

It's time for our second challenge of the month! As a reminder, our inspiration kit for this month is Daily Journal by Cocoa Daisy.

The inspiration kit has a lot of black accents which I think look so striking against the bright colors. Do the same on your projects by using black as a subtle accent color! think photo mats, alphas, small embellishments, etc!

I love using black as an accent color! I used a black frame for my layout, black mats on two of my photos and black alphas on this two-page spread!

Let's see what the rest of the team came up with this week!

Master Forger Julene used black flowers and butterflies on her layout. She also found a darkroom door filmstrip of flowers and use black for her matting. All these make the flowers in her bouquet pop.

Master Forger Ryann used an acetate from her stash and built from there.  She is working on an album from when she and her husband were dating.  She used a lot of different colors, and added some black stitching, title, and black and white leaves/flowers stickers that she colored in to pick up more of the color from the rest of the layout.

We hope you'll stick around for the rest of the month, here's a look at what's left!

September 2024 - Challenge #1 "Summer Just Flew By"

Hello! Welcome to our first challenge of the month! We'll be using this image from our inspiration kit, Daily Journal by Cocoa Daisy as our launching point for today's challenge!

I don't know about the rest of you, but this summer really did FLY by! And for our area, we're finishing up the second week of school already! I'm sure we all still have plenty of summer left to scrapbook, so grab your kit and some summertime fun photos and let's get creating! (You don't HAVE to use Summer 2024 photos, I didn't!)

For my layout, I used some photos of my guys enjoying a little playground trip back in 2022!

I used the September "Freaky Fast Friday" formula from The Scrap Room as well for my layout design!

Guest Designer Amy Jo played along with us by scrapping some summer hiking photos. Here's what she had to say about her layout:

"We love going on hikes in the summer. These photos were taken at Lily Pad Lake near Silverthorne, Colorado. I added the red cardstock but used patterned paper, washi tape, Distress Mica Spray, and stickers from my kit."

Let's see what the rest of the team created as well!

MF Jody also used an older picture! Scrapping summer memories is the best!
She had tons of Heidi Swapp's Sun Chaser collection in her September kit! The colorful popsicles and so much color!!

Master Forger Tina used some current photos from this Summer for her layout. Scrapping Summer memories is always fun to relive those memories. A day with my sister and a day not working is a holiday for her and this is where they went.

The fun continues next week! Here's what's on tap for the rest of this month:
  • 18th September - Challenge #2
  • 22nd September - Challenge #3 Sketch Challenge

September 2024 - Mini Kits and Projects Reveal

Are you short on time or do you just need to scrap a few photos or are you a beginner scrapbooker? Then a mini kit may be for you.  A mini kit offers simplicity. It's perfect for beginners or those with limited time. It's also portable and budget friendly, allowing you to create without have overwhelming choices. Two of our Master Forgers are going to show you how they build a mini kit and how they use them.

Let's take a look at our Inspiration Kit:
Daily Journal from Cocoa Daisy

While I did create a "main" kit, the process was exactly the same as I did here for my mini kit. I chose initial sheets of pattern paper based on the inspiration, I grabbed some photos that would work, then I flushed out the kit with more paper and embellishments, allowing myself to stray a bit from the inspiration to include more theme for my story.
This is not how I normally kit, but it was the right pace for me this month!
The kit began with a camera print paper based on the camera icons in the inspiration.

Some photos were chosen and more papers were added.

An array of camera embellishments were added, along with some frames and a few extra sticker elements. That completed the kit.

From there it was a matter of constructing a double page layout to fit all the photos.

If you'd like to see more, there is a process video for this on my YouTube channel.

Master Forger Laurie

My kit may be a little large for a mini kit as far as the papers go, but I do like to have choices, since I hadn't picked out which photos I was going to use. I chose mostly greens and blues with some neutral smaller prints. I do love using camera, view master reels and filmstrips as foundation pieces for clusters so I added some of those.

I noticed there were also frames in the inspiration kit so in those went too. I plan to make most of my embellishments this month so I included some camera stamps, filmstrip and flower dies and a stencil. You might notice it's a wave stencil...that's because the blue made me think of water and I'm pretty sure I have some beach photos that will go well with this kit.

Now, that you've seen my kit, here are the layouts I created.

Come back again next week! Let's see what we have lined up for the rest of this month:
  • 12th September - Challenge #1

September 2024 - Forgeries on the Fourth

Today is the time of the month when the Master Forgers share their forgeries they have created!  Let me remind you of this month's inspiration kit:

 Master Forger Misty
Misty decided to recreate two sheets of the pattern paper: the black and white chevron print (2nd from the left) and the striped & stitched paper (5th from left). Once done she had some leftovers and made some bonus tags.

Chevron pattern paper – style #1 (side A)

Chevron pattern paper – style #2 (side B)

Misty created this double sided pattern chevron pattern paper using an embossing folder to stamp on one side (side B) and a stencil to create side A. They are both distressed, but B is more so than A.

Next, she created something much simpler using lots of washi tape and some loose-tension sewing machine stitching.

This is where the bonus tags came in. With tiny leftover bits of washi tape trimmed from the edges of this paper, she made some coordinating tags.

If you want to see more details, she has a process video for all of these items.

Master Forger Tara really loved the look of the green paper with the white grungy alpha print on it and so she set about creating a forgery of that paper using a piece of 49 & Market Spectrum Gardenia, some foam alpha stamps, and white acrylic paint.  Here's her paper:

Master Forger Tara also went on the hunt for free camera photo images that she could print and watercolor for her kit. Here's a link to one of them:

https://www.dreamstime.com/royalty-free-stock-photos-dslr-camera-front-view-image22052058

She's hoping to print a few of these and use some watercolor paint to make some pretty embellishment images to cut out and use on her layouts.

Master Forger JoJo stamped and die cut a few embellishments to go along with her kit this month!

Mater Forger Ryann really loves the butterflies in this kit this month!  She used shimmer watercolors and Tim Holtz Distress Spritz and made a background.  She used the die cuts she put in the kit and made them black.  She used circle cutters and a distressing tool and put them all together.
