November 2018 - Forgery on the Fourth

Just a reminder of the gorgeous kit we were inspired by this month. "Little Things" by Citrus Twist Kits in October 2018 is full of such beautiful colours and pretty elements that it's been a real hit with the whole team. I spotted a few items that could have been created by crafty peeps and I'm excited to see what you had a go at!

Without further ado, let's see what our ever talented Master Forgers have tried for themselves, shall we?

Guest Designer Alex was very inspired - check out her contributions below and don't forget to head over to her blog here to get all the info! I can't believe how fantastic her "forgeries" look!

As much as I desperately want to get my hands on Pinkfresh Studio's Indigo Hills 2 (which I love even more than the previous one), I knew I could give forgery a shot until then. Unlike printed pattened papers, I could even use texture pastes and glazes and other lumpy things. These are currently flat, but the more I think about it, the more I like the idea!

The third paper I tried to forge was the one from Vicki Boutin's Field Notes coleection called Daydreamer. Coffee rings? How could I not love this! My example was not in the same league as hers but lots of fun to do!

Please visit my blog "Pink Crafty Mama" for more details!

Cindy was inspired by Spread Love paper, the Puffy hearts and some die cuts.

More details can be found on her blog.

Leslie changed up the color scheme of her counterfeit kit to coordinate with the 2010 Basic Grey Hopskotch "Kissing Tag" paper in the center below. The clamshell patterned b-side of Crate Paper by Maggie Holmes/Willow Lane "Violet" forgery (left) and the coffee ring paper from American Crafts by Vicki Boutin/Field Notes "Daydreamer made easy-peasy forgeries!

Lisa decided to give the Maggie Holmes bows a try and as ever, found a simple, quick and easy way. Different threads gave different results that you can see in her original kit reveal here, but the principle is below.

Using a fork, she wrapped thread around until she had the thickness she wanted. Then she threaded a second length through the middle "hole" and over the wrapped threads a few times before tying a strong double knot. She slipped the "bow" off the fork and carefully cut through the loops at each end before tidying up the loose threads. It literally took a couple of minutes for each one and aren't they cute? Apologies for the slightly out of focus photos! I wanted to get them nice and close but didn't realise that the focus was a bit off! But I think you get the idea!

Leslie also tracked down a tutorial online for them as she thought that they were A-DO-RA-BLE!

Here's a quick & easy Youtube tutorial using embroidery floss.

Tina also had fun forging the Maggie Holmes bows using her hand to wrap the thread around to make the bows, she did it in a variety of thread types too:

Tina also wanted to forge the Vicki Boutin's Field Notes collection called Daydreamer. Coffee rings how simple that looked to do :) Similar to it and just loved the out come:

Details on how she created these can be found on her blog.

Laura too created her own coffee ring paper and thread bows but also loved the blue and yellow star paper in the kit, so forged her own. "I used a star paper from Amy Tangerine's Better Together collection, then digi-stamped yellow stars randomly all over. You could do this with normal stamps and ink or paint though. The coffee stained paper i also created digitally, and the thread bows i made with embroidery floss wrapped around 3 fingers! I love how they turned out!"

  1. Well done ladies! I like the different ideas for the same papers.

  2. I echo Julene's comment! So many variations on the coffee rings papers and the tasseled looking bows! It's a bit surprising that several from the team plus the GD had similar ideas on what they selected to counterfeit! I guess that's the power of marketing and product development of successful companies, knowing what's trending. I'm thinking of trying maybe rainbow-tasseled bows! Shh! Don't tell anyone!!!
