May 2019 - Just the Gist

Did you catch the new kit this month?

If not, head back to our reveal yesterday (here) and don't forget to check out all the Master Forgers on the blog hop as well as our wonderful Guest Designer Leanne!

Here's a reminder of the fun, bright, bold kit that MF Leslie picked out for us from My Creative Scrapbooks.

My Creative Scrapbooks March Main Kit

We hope that you love this kit. I mean, what's not to love, right?

But there's a lot going on there and maybe you're struggling to find a starting point for making up your own version? I'm here to help or at least offer you a starting point that you could use.

When I looked at this kit and made up my own (which I'll be showcasing on 6th as a mini-kit), these are the things that stood out for me:

  • flowers
  • girls
  • suitcases
  • happy days
And the colours jumped right out at me:
  • sunshine yellow
  • sky blue
  • leaf green
  • postbox red
That's a good list to start with but I want to distill it down even further.

So why don't we take just a single piece of paper and see if we can get the whole feeling of the kit from just that?

I took the floral paper, "Flower Market" from the Chasing Adventures collection featured in the My Creative Scrapbooks kit  because it seems to sum up those fun colours, as well as the wonderful florals that feature so prominently in the papers and embellishments.

And it is certainly a happy day design so it seemed a perfect place to bring out the essence of what I see in the kit.

I made the following colour swatch using the free feature at Coolers.co.

Use this idea or pick a single piece from the collection and distill it down to the purest ingredient to give you a perfect starting point using your own stash.

Why not give this technique a go and let me know how you get on!

We'll be back throughout the month to give you some tips, ideas
and challenges as you put together and use your kit.

Here's what we have coming up this month:
  • May *3rd*:  We'll have our "Forgery on the Fourth" post (where the Master Forgers will reveal how they created their own version of some of the items in this month's kit) ON THE 3RD due to International Scrapbook Day! Make sure to be back on *May 4th*!
  • May 6th:  We'll reveal a couple of mini-kits and projects, in case you're a little limited for time this month and would prefer a more petite kit.
  • May 12th & 18th:  We'll give you two challenges to help you use the kit you've made.

We always love to see your work, so please share your kits and projects with us!

Just a reminder not to forget our {inter}National Scrapbook Day - Saturday 4th May 2019 where we will be collaborating for a fun additional kit and challenge with Bash Your Scrapbook Stash.
