Welcome back to our Just The Gist of It post where we hope to offer you a possible starting point for creating your kit. Master Forger Brandi here to help you get started curating your very own kit from your stash and a few ways to do it.
Sometimes, we just don't know where to start or there is something about the kit that doesn't feel like us, but we still want to bring a selection of items together to curate our own monthly kit. This is the post for you! Hopefully, you will find some inspiration to get you going.
Let's just remind ourselves about our inspiration kit this month from Not Just for Boys Kit Club:
As scrapbookers, aren’t we all just immediately drawn to pretty patterned paper? I decided to try a (new-to-me) method this month. I loved the variety of papers in this kit; so much so that I pulled papers for my kit for both the A sides and B sides in the kit!
Here are the Originals in the Kit
And my Choices from my Stash (I did leave the Journal Cards out)
The embellishments in the inspiration kit are Autumn-themed, but I wanted a more everyday feel to my kit this month, so I opted to pull a variety of boy-themed & more masculine embellishments from my stash - here’s an idea of the direction I went with my kit - you can see full kit photos on my Instagram here. For me, it works best to pull mixed media and stencils/stamps as I go, which I definitely intend to do this month! Lots of grunge-y layouts in my future I think with this one!
But, maybe, you aren’t a fan of the orange/blue/brown color palette. You can focus on the motifs of the papers (floral, plaids, woodgrain, textures) in any color palette & theme of your choice! I can see pastel colors for a spring theme or swap in some red & green tartan plaids and go in a Christmas direction if you’re still scrapping December photos!
This concept works in reverse too! Perhaps, you really like the Autumn themed embellishments or the woodgrain alphas. You can pull your embellishments first and then find coordinating patterned papers in your stash. This would work really well if you prefer themed papers as a lot of the papers in this kit are more basic prints.
My final idea for you is to focus on the colors alone and pull papers & embellishments in the orange/blue/brown color scheme! This is actually my usual method of pulling a kit!
I really hope that this helps you find a starting point that works for you with this month's inspiration kit! Let us know on the Facebook Community how you were inspired this month!!!

Love the idea of using both sides as inspiration
ReplyDeleteThis is great encouragement Brandi! My starting point was definitely the color scheme. I'll have to remember to swap florals for the season as well as the plaids!
