June 2022 Challenge #2 It's all Black and White

Hey friends, Master Forger Kate here again with another challenge. This time it's a photo challenge!

For Challenge #2, I want you to use black and white photos on your layout, I feel that they make such a HUGE visual impact. And while some people may find it hard to scrap b/w photos, here's some tips:

1.  Don't use too many embellishments otherwise you'll drown out the photos. Keep it simple.

2.  Make your papers and embellishments accent the photo. Pretend you can see the colors in the pictures and then use those colors.

3.  Clusters are your friend! Keep some white space!

4.  When I'm photographing events or things, I purposely change my camera settings and take a few b/w shots so I don't have to convert them.

For more inspiration, here are some layouts the Master Forgers have done using b/w photos!

MF Juliet loves using two of the same photo in different sizes and she had these two of her oldest daughter.  Needed to be simple so the photos would speak for themselves. Neat thing about the one with the 'orange' frame, that is actually a window envelope she covered! So much different in real life!

Master Forger Leslie received this perfect photo from a friend at the same time as the prompt!

Master Forger Tara set aside her 2014 family albums to print a cute photo (or two) of her granddaughter in the summer of 2015!  She said:

"I don't know about you, but I just don't use black and white photos very often. I don't even understand WHY not! I love the contrast of the colors with black and white photos, especially when playing with a bright collection such as the Bungalow Lane in my June kit!"

Master Forger Tina used some really early photos of her siblings that were in Black & White for her layout.

MF Lisa hasn't managed much creativity recently and so was happy to find a vintage black & white photo that spoke to her for this layout. Printing the shot twice in different sizes was ideal as she has very few baby and early childhood photos so she usually only uses one photo per layout. Doubling the photo fills the layout design-wise but doesn't eat into her small supply of photos.

The journalling will be added later as it's quite personal but that white space above the title is the perfect spot for her story.

Here is what the month of inspiration will look like.

  • 24th June: Followers Showcase - who has caught our eye this month.
  • 30th June: Killing Kits - an idea or two focusing up the bits and pieces left in your own kit.

You know that we always love to see your work, so please share your kits and projects with us. You can post them in our Facebook Community or share them on Instagram (we are @counterfeitkitchallenge or tag us using #counterfeitkitchallenge and #ckcjune2022).

Thanks so much for stopping by! We can't wait to see your kits and projects this month!
