Christmas at CKC - 12 Days of Christmas - Challenge #6 - MF Kate

New beginnings, hopes and dreams. Let's see what MF Kate has created for us on this theme!

MF Kate used the rule of threes in the form of a tri-level Christmas tree to journal her hopes for the New Year!  She used a self cut tree covered with chipboard die cuts and word stickers to create the visual triangle for her Christmas pajama photo and journaling.

We'd love it if you'd join in.

As always you can share kits, layouts and projects with us in our Facebook Communityor tag us over on Instagram (we are @counterfeitkitchallenge or tag us using #counterfeitkitchallenge and #ckcdecember2022 and #ckc12daysofchristmas).

Thanks so much for stopping by! We can't wait to see you playing along with our festive fun this month.

November 2022 - Mini Kit Reveal and Projects

Sometimes, you just don't have the time or motivation to make and use up a full kit. Maybe you need to replenish your card supplies, or have a small mini-album in mind to make. Perhaps November is a really busy month - I KNOW that feeling - but you still want to have something creative to fulfil that need to interact with paper and pretty supplies!

This is the post for you.

This is where we show you three mini-kits that we've made up as well as the small projects that we made with those supplies.

Today, MFs Juliet, Cindy and Kate share their ideas and we hope that you will also feel inspired to give this a go if you need to take a slightly different direction this month!

A quick reminder of the inspiration kit in November to kick-things off Scrapbook Werkstatt October 2022 kit “Herbstzauber” (the kit is no longer available on the site but we have linked to the Scrapbook Werkstatt main page!)

MF Misty is here with a bit of a different mini. Today she is making some interactive flip elements to use on later layouts. These flip booklets can hold extra photos or journaling or both! So here is how it goes...

Start with scraps of pattern paper, partial packs of die cuts and some puffy stickers all inspired by the above kit. Her choices leaned heavily to PinkFresh Studio.

Then she added in scrap product packaging to be the base of the projects, and some coordinating washi tape to construct the booklets. Some washi tape is not as sticky as it could be, so a bit of liquid glue was added to the tape to help keep this project sturdy

Then she cut down the product packaging to either 4x6 or 3x4 pieces and cut a few pattern papers to that size as well. Using the washi tape, she bound together different layers of these "pages" to create booklets. Washi tape on the front and the back of each page helps keep it all sturdy. She limited it to 2-4 pages per booklet. With a bit of decoration using the embellishments and these were ready to add to her main kit for future layouts.

Her YouTube video really shows of the interactivity of the booklets best, so if you want to see more you can check that out. She also shares tips on how to use these on traditional 12x12 layouts inside of page protectors.

MF Juliet here with a fun little mini(and it really is mini for me!)

With everything going on in my life a mini is just what I needed for November!

I did create one layout, my son in love took some of my grand sons to a balloon glow and that paper was just perfect to create a simple layout. I was inspired by a sketch from somewhere (I'm so bad at keeping up with where!)

THEN I wanted to do something a little different.  I have a small circle of friends (four of us, were five but one of them passed a few years ago) that have been friends for a good 30 years.  We text almost daily and share EVERYTHING with each other, no matter what time of day.  We pray together. cry together and often laugh together (or at each other!).  I wanted to do something a little special for them so I created some little 'gratitude' books.  There are 30 prompts of things for them to write what they are grateful for.  I created one for myself too!  And then I made each of them cards to mail with them.  They should be getting them any day (I'm always a day late for mailing stuff) and I can't wait to see their response! I still have a few things left so who knows, maybe another layout or two??

MF Kate

MF Kate here with my mini kit that somehow morphed into a regular kit! Inspired by the bright florals, graphic prints, bright colors along with that pop of black and white patterned paper, I accidentally created somewhat of a spring travel kit even though it's November!I always start with patterned paper inspiration so I was drawn to the florals first, then I added graphic and square patternsfrom Paige Evans and Maggie Holmes and of course I made sure to have that black and white Maggie Holmes paper from the inspiration kit in there.

I then added mostly florals, gold leaves, die cuts from Pink Fresh Studios .  THEN, because I just can never stop at a mini, I gathered leftovers from my October kit and  some things from my stash overflow basket that just begged to be used.

I thought I'd start with a layout-scrapping a fall photo that I'm hoping looks kinda like a fall layout!

And of course, as always, we still have a full month of inspiration to keep you inspired!

November is going to look something like this:

  • 12th & 18th November: Challenges #1 & #2 - to inspire you to get creating from your own kit
  • 22nd November: An extra challenge to add a little extra inspiration this month!
  • 24th November: Follower Showcase - who has caught our eye this month
  • 30th November: Killing Kits - an idea or two for using up the bits & pieces left in your kit box

You KNOW that we always love to see your work, so please share your kits and projects with us. You can post them in our Facebook Communityor share them on Instagram (we are @counterfeitkitchallenge or tag us using #counterfeitkitchallenge and #ckcnovember2022).

October 2022 - Mini Kit Reveal & Projects

 Greetings!

Just as a reminder, our inspiration kit this month is the August Cherry Box from A Cherry on Top:

Sometimes a full-on kit is overwhelming or may be too much for what you anticipate needing this month. Mini kits are a great idea! The inspiration kit might be perfect for a single simple project you've had in mind. You can create page kit(s). Perhaps your card supply has dwindled & you can use a smaller kit to replenish it. Let's see what this month's Master Forger Kate and Master Forger Laura have come up with!

October Guest Designer Nikki says:

Using cut aparts is a great way to use an entire piece of paper from a kit. It also is a simple way to use the inspiration of a kit in a different way.

Mini Project: https://youtu.be/MTDz8ULeZXE

Master Forger Kate here and to me, this kit is perfect for spring or fall layouts/projects.  I actually kept my kit relatively small this month so I'd be inclined to use all of it.  I was primarily inspired by all the leaves and the butterflies so I started there with die cuts, laser cuts and stickers.  I then added 6 neutral papers from Simple Stories and 49th and Market and some gold vellum paper scraps.  I then rounded my mini kit out with 49th and Market washi tapes and some sewing notions for texture.

As far as my project goes, I decided to do something different. I decided to use up all these tags I had sitting around and make a tagbook of my Thursday 3 selfies! I printed out the photos, embellished the front of the tags, then write my Thursday3 thoughts on the back.

Master Forger Laura created a beautiful mini kit!

For my mini kit this month I started by pulling out some neutral scraps from my stash, then added in the pops of colour with the yellow, orange and green scraps. I love the vintage style of the original kit, so pulled some die cuts that I felt matched the theme.

Laura was just playing around and ended up making a rough base layout ready to use later when the perfect photo comes along!

September 2022 - Mini-kit Reveal and Projects

Greetings!  Mini kits are a great idea if you don't have time for big projects. A spark may come from part of our kit which you can use to create a page or two or perhaps some other kind of project. Let's see what this month's MF Kate and MF Misty have come up with!

Just as a reminder, MF Juliet has chosen the digi kit by Traci Reed - Wildflower for our inspiration this month!

Focusing on the 12x12 papers

And the stickers

Master Forger Misty is here with your first mini kit. She owns the Traci Reed Wildflower collection and printed the "sticker" sheets (die cuts really) as well as several papers (in 8.5x11 size as she doesn't own a wide format printer). She also has two sheets of woodgrain pattern paper in 12x12 size. Unfortunately those didn't make it into the photo! With the addition of some twine and sequins she has a very simple mini ready to go.

Notice the layouts in the left and right of the photo? She chose her products to specifically coordinate with those already existing layouts. Each layout is about the same event for different albums. Each layout is different in style but have some common color features including dark blue, yellow and green. So she chose products based on colors! Below is a closer look at the existing layouts.

Then she set to work creating THIRD pages to coordinate with those double page spreads!

She kept these new layouts the same in design but mixed up the colors based on the layouts they would coordinate with. You can see below how those combos turned out.

This is one way she adds extra photos to a much larger event layout. If you want more details, she has a YouTube video up for this process. Hope you were inspired to make third or fourth pages for your bigger stories!

Master Forger Kate also owns the Traci Reed inspiration kit too BUT...read to the end to see why she didn't use it to start! She turned to her stash to pull papers and was inspired by all the blues in the kit first.  She chose her papers pulling shades of blue, mustard yellows and rich kelly greens that felt like spring or summer.

She then moved on to embellishments- butterflies and flowers taking front and center along with more spring and summer elements. AND, since her printer had no ink, (how did that happen?) she decided to print parts of the collection in black and white! Making lemonade out of 🍋 🍋 🍋!!

Kate started going back through that shoebox in her scrap closet and decided to start September by scrapping vintage photos before there were cell phone pics!

Make sure you come back for more inspiration for the rest of the month!

  • 12th & 18th September: Challenges #1 & #2 - to inspire you to get creating from your own kit
  • 24th September: Follower Showcase - who has caught our eye this month

August 2022 - Challenge #2

It's August 18th and that means Challenge #2 at Counterfeit Kit Challenge.

I'm excited to see how you interpret this challenge. First a reminder of the kit.

Citrus Twist TRAVELOGUE Life-Crafted Kit - April 2022 – Citrus Twist Kits

For Challenge #2 I was inspired by the puffy stickers in the original kit.

Those little triangular pennants caught my eye.

Use vertical triangular pennants on your page. Make your own if necessary. You could have a flagpole with a few running down or down the side of a photo.

Here's what our Master Forgers have created:

Master Forger Julene

Master Forger Kate

MF Juliet had fun with this one and used some pictures of her great grandson, Karter, from a photo shoot for is 2nd birthday.

Master Forger Leslie managed a multi-photo page from her last big trip!
