Welcome to "Forgeries on the Fourth" where it is no crime to create your own version of the trendy, hip products from the inspiration kit using your own stash and ingenuity. Each month on the fourth, check out tutorials from your Master Forgers or links to resources they have found for you on the internet.

If you ever wondered what it was like when the Counterfeit Kit Blog first started...wonder no more! This month we are copying the very first inspiration kit we featured on the blog -  a Jenni Bowlin kit as shown here:

  

We are also using the current Jenni Bowlin Magpie Kit as some current inspiration.

The joy of choosing an original Counterfeit Kit is that there are already some great tutorials already in the CKCB archives!

First off, we have an original tutorial from our very own CKCB founder Bethany who counterfeited the Studio Calico Notions in the main kit way back in 2011.  It's here on her blog.

Hi, my name is Sherrie and I am a Craftaholic. I am planning to  join a 12x12 step program, and as soon as I stop procraftinating about it. I am sure I will do that soon. My habit of procraftingating lets me indulge in my paper addiction, while ignoring dishes, laundry, a the dog that needs walking. When I am finished procraftinating, my work area suffers from craftermath. But the craftacular results are worth it. 

When I am not in my studio, I might be found playing with my grandchildren, working in the garden, or at a yoga class.

This month marks my tenth kit with CKC. I am super delighted to be the guest designer for May. After lurking around the site for the better part of a year, I jumped in last July and have not looked back as each month I discover new ways to exercise those scrappy muscles, and develop my personal style.

Photographing Christmas Lights and Your Christmas Tree

Ever since I got my DSLR camera (2 Christmas' ago), I have wanted to be able to take some good pictures of my Christmas lights and tree.  Last year at this time I was still stuck in "Auto" mode...but this past year I have really learned how to use all of the Modes, including Manual.  So I started searching for a few tutorials to get me moving in the right direction for photographing my tree.  I have even found ideas/tutorials for using a point and shoot camera for these types of photos.  This is what I found...

Stacey's Kit

"When I saw the pink and teal, I knew this kit would be ideal for my wedding album. A large part of my kit is thanks to Big Lots for the gcd studio papers I purchased there. Most of my kit is from their "Eye Candy" collection. I also have some of my favorite DCV papers as well as random bits of this and that.

My embellishments include bling, buttons, and bottle caps. There is a versatile piece of transparency for faux bling, wings, and the acetate heart mentioned in the kit. I have flowers from a recent swap in this kit but I guarantee I'll make flowers that will match perfect to my scrap pages. Glitter glue along with my version of "Sparkling H2O" will add shimmer to my layouts. Also included is googly eyes, feathers, ribbons, and trims.

Because this is my wedding album I included a wedding add-on kit with wedding die cuts,  chip board, vellum, and rub-ons. Also I included an amazing lock and key my friend Jenny AKA "JustOwen" made for me in a swap.

When my computer is back in shape I plan to add die cut birds and metal charms. I'm making a quilled key and bird cage along with origami birds and a paper pieced peacock."

"Wildflowers" Tutorials

Sherri's "Wildflowers" Counterfeit Kit:

"This kit was harder for me to match exactly from my stash, so I looked for inspiration in the kit, then went from there.  As I did with my February kit, I first picked one paper as my focal point and built my kit around that.  I chose the butterfly print first (from the same line as my main kit rub-ons), then chose some basic prints for the others.  I included two printable cards, a woodgrain stamp, and some premade fabric flowers."  For more information on Sherri's Wildflower kit, please go to her blog at http://sherrithompson.blogspot.com/.

I had lots of fun with this kit.  I used lots of new things that I got in JoAnn's new Flea Market line of papers...I couldn't resist buying a few items last month with a Gift Card I received!  Technically, the stuff is from my stash...just my "newer" stash!

Bethany's "Wildflowers" Counterfeit Kit:

"I love the lightness of this kit, but needed to go a bit darker in mine.  Mainly because I am running out of light colored paper that would work.  LOL  The vintage pages are adorable!  I can't wait to decide how to use them!  Check out my Blog for a complet list of my kit contents and more pictures."

Carnation Tutorial:

Start off with some tulle and a silk carnation.

Pull the carnation apart into layers.

Cut the tulle into circles; layer tulle and carnation silk petals; fasten the entire flower together with a brad; and finally spritz with some Glimmer Mist for a little added color.

Sherri's "Sunny Clearing" Counterfeit Kit:

"This is my favorite add-on!  I used similar coordinating papers, plus some Cosmo Cricket Elements from another line.  Instead of the calendar paper in the inspiration kit, I stamped a doily on yellow cardstock and embossed it with white embossing powder.  I also added some colorful chipboard accents, ribbons, and a little set of number and alpha stamps.  I will be adding some crocheted flowers and button clips, too, like the ones from the inspiration kit."  For more information on Sherri's Kit visit her blog at http://sherrithompson.blogspot.com/.

Meridy's "Sunny Clearing" Counterfeit Kit:

My favorite part of this kit might just be...all of it!  I LOVE this old line of Cosmo Cricket, I think croched flowers are so cute, I was waiting for the perfect papers to match to the vintage notecards I found a a thrift store a while back (the little boy and little girl ones), I'm excited about every piece in here. I can't wait to start using this kit!!!

Bethany's "Sunny Clearing" Counterfeit Kit:

I love the bright colors in this kit!  It reminded me of some BG sets that I have, so I used those.  By this kit, I felt pretty free to skip stuff I knew I wouldn't use without feeling guilty.  LOL  Check out my Blog for a complet list of my kit contents and more pictures.

Mini Doily Tutorials:
There are multiple was to go about re-creating the mini doilies.  I grabbed some stamps, a scalloped punch, and various colors of ink and went to work stamping images in different colors and punching them out.

I was inspired by the "beach theme" in the Cosmo Cricket Paper and found the following images.  I found all of them on multiple web sites, so I decided to include the images, rather than the links...

Making your own altered paper clips is as easy as adhering qnything you want to some office paper clips.  You can add silk flowers, felt designs, buttons, bling...any tiny embellishment will look great adhered to the end of a paper clip!  Here are a few cute examples...
