Welcome to "Forgeries on the Fourth" where it is no crime to create your own version of the trendy, hip products from the inspiration kit using your own stash and ingenuity.  Each month on the fourth, check out tutorials from your Master Forgers or links to resources they have found for you on the internet. 

CSI (Case file 365-9)

This month over at Counterfeit Kit Challenge we are using the unique inspiration
offered by Color, Stories, Inspiration blog (CSI)
While not a traditional kit, there are still endless options for pulling together a creative collection.  We may need to use our magnifying glass, though, to search for some possible embellishments.  Our super-sleuth Master Forgers studied the evidence section of the case file and discovered these suspects for your consideration.

You be the judge and jury and decide if you'll give them a go!

March Tutorials

Welcome to "Hey...I can make THAT!"  A monthly post to help you truly counterfeit many of the components of the current month's kit.  No need to go out and purchase...just use the supplies you already have to create some of the freshest and trendiest products out there.  Here you will find links to our amazing design team members' blogs and/or links to other craft sites on the web showing how to make these amazing products.

This month we have a multitude of choices from the February Cocoa Daisy Kit as seen here.  Are you a traditional scrapbooker?  Do you like to art journal?  Project Life more your thing?  There's a kit for everyone!  And lots of kits mean lots of forgeries going on over at CKC Design Team Central.  Let's see what our lovely Master Forgers have up their sleeve this month.

Next up is die cuts!  I love those cute packs filled with tickets, arrows, tabs and doo dads.  They are SO easy to recreate at home! 

Some of my favorite ways?

Use punches and scrap paper to make some easy shapes to use.

Fussy cut shapes out of patterned papers with larger prints or even greeting cards!

Use a die cut machine to cut out a variety of shapes and sizes!  (I have a new Cricut Imagine and am have LOTS of fun doing this!)

A lot of paper packs come with sheets of tags and journaling spots.  I have a tray of those that I can sort through for shapes that I want.

Stamp and color some images and cut them out.

Attach Stickers to card stock and trim them up to give yourself some more versatility.

Pinterest is also a great resource for printables you can cut out and use!  Here are some of my favorites!

The Vintage Doily Mask... if you are lucky enough, you can find a REAL plastic vintage doily in a thrift store, yard sale, or flea market for just pennies.  Once I started "keeping an eye out for them" I began seeing them more and more often at my local thrift stores.  I have bought a few in various patterns and sizes.

The Vintage Kraft Flag Pins can be recreated by following our Master Forger, Lisa's, tutorial on her blog, found here.

The Butterfly Paper can be counterfeited by simply taking your favorite punch (a butterfly in this case), a few scraps of paper, and a piece of white cardstock.  Punch butterflies from the various scraps, place them on the white cardstock (in no particular order, just random colors in a random order), adhere them, and PRESTO!  You have Counterfeit Butterfly Paper!!!

String of Paper Dolls Stamp (seen here) can be re-created by using Boy and Girl Symbols  downloaded for free from this site.  You can also change the color of the symbols to match your layout!!!

The tutorials for the "City of Lights Kit" are pretty straight forward...

The Washi Tape...I'm going to be a COMPLETE enabler right now...rather than making Washi tape from your stash, Target has sets of Washi tape in 4 different color schemes in the office supply section.  They are the "Up & Up" brand.  Four (fairly large) rolls come in each package for $4.   I don't know of anywhere else that you can find Washi tape for $1 per roll...so I figured I'd let everyone know.  I bout 2 of the color schemes and have used it on LOTS of layouts already.  I think it is definately worth the $4.

The "Love" tags are super simple to counterfeit...just grab a few scraps of Kraft paper (or any paper for that matter) and use some of those OLD mini punches that you have hanging out in your supplies.  If you have been scrapbooking for a few years, you are bound to have a few of those in your stash.  I bought a WHOLE SET at Cost-Co in probably 2001, which I have probably not used since 2001!!!  But I have a hard time purging tools, I'm happy to put those punches into good use again.

The "Exclusive" Butterfly Stickers are super cute.  And I must admit, I bought a Martha Stewart Butterfly  punch (maybe a year ago) because I knew I would be able to use it time and time again.  So pull out a butterfly punch (or any shape you love) and create some "exclusive" embellishments of your own.  This will also help you use up some of those scraps!!!

The Bicycle Stamps must be super exclusive to this kit, I couldn't even find another picture of the stamp set on the web!  You will have to look at the kit to see which ones I'm referring to.  Here is a link to a free printable vintage bicycle  and another old bicycle and a bicycle print and these 12 free bicycle silhouette files.  Enjoy!
