September 2025 - Mini Kit and Project Reveal

Today we are going to talk about mini kits.  We know that life can be busy, and you know that you just won't have a lot of time to play along here at CKCB.  Perhaps you're going to have only a few hours to create some projects.  Maybe you've just found us and the thought of making a kit is just a little bit overwhelming.  Let me introduce you to the idea of mini kits.  Mini kits still allow you all of the creativity, just with fewer supplies from your stash.  It's a great way to get started with CKC.

Here's our inspiration kit, Life Captured by Simple Stories.

Let's have a look at the mini kits and projects created by two of our Master Forgers.  I hope they inspire you to try a mini kit of your own.

Master Forger Misty

This month I decided to create a traveling scrapbook. I'll be heading to the east coast and I want to capture those memories as they happen on the go!

Now my notebook isn't really a traveler's notebook, nor is it a traditional scrapbook. Instead I'm using a type of Japanese notebook that works more like a binder. It has a spiral spine that opens to allow adding or removing papers.

Here it is pictured in the middle of the products.
(More info on these notebooks at JetPens.com)

Speaking of products, my kit build started with some very basic papers. In fact, the globe paper came from some of the inspiration embellishments...
and it sparked this entire travel project!

Here is a look at the papers I chose to start. I love how the speech bubbles looks so much like the month bubbles from the inspiration! Note that these were cut down from 12x12 papers since I'll need a smaller size for this notebook. I will take the rest of the paper pieces as well.

I've included cut-aparts based on the cut-apart nature of the inspiration's pattern papers. I do have more of these to pack along as well. This is just a sampling.

With my embellishments I begin to veer off from the inspiration a bit. I did include some inspiration based everyday life elements & phrases. Then I made this more my own by including more travel icons.

This project will be a combination of pre-made pages and impromptu pages. The products above will be the ones I take to go. Below are the products I chose for my pre-made pages. I've based them on some of the activities I know I'll be doing on this trip.

Included are Game Night, Theater Show, Market Meals, and Pool Side.

Now let's take a look at what else I will need. I'll bring basic tools.

This is how everything will be packed for travel. I also have an Instax printer that will come with me. This'll allow me to print photos right from my phone.

And, finally, here are a couple of the layouts I've pre-made. You'll see that I've left room for things I'll make live. Luckily I can move things around if I need more or less space.

It really is best to watch me flip through all the pages in order to see the whole project!

I hope you give scrapping on the go a try!

I think I have decided Mini Kit is my jam!  For my mini kit, I stuck with just 4 sheets of paper (although I did end up bringing in one piece of white cardstock).

This kit had such a good variety of colors and themes!  I went with a yellow/orange/pink base with a few pops of blue and green in the little hearts.

For my embellishments, I'm really trying to work through some old sticker sheets, so I pulled out an alpha and another sheet with a similar color palette.  I also pulled an acrylic title, some paper ephemera, and sequins.  I think this will work great to make a couple of projects.

So let's get crafting!

For my first project, I really wanted to use the acrylic title.  I went looking for a photo that seemed to represent the idea behind the title.  Then I looked through the papers.  Initially, I thought to use one of the pattern papers as the background.  But as I worked through the process, I realized I wanted to create a bit more interest.  Hence, the reason I brought in the white cardstock and introduced some mixed media.  I used my Distress Oxide swatches to find two matching colors (Rusty Hinge and Evergreen Bough) and used the packaging technique, stencil and stamp to create this look.  It's fun and messy.

For this layout, I wanted to use my pink grid paper, but it had these bows across the top (it's an old Prima paper pad).  So I definitely wanted to cut it down.  This led me to make a frame of the yellow polka dot, which I did gut in order to create the circle mat under the circle of the orange plaid (which was leftover from my first layout).  My paper ephemera had a cute title and tags.  I pulled the green letters from the sticker sheet.  Once I assembled all the layers, I decided sequins were in order.
I added a little journaling to the right hand tag.

Once I finished my two layouts, I had just some paper scraps left, plus a little more ephemera and stickers.  It was perfect to grab another piece of colored cardstock and create a couple of cards.

All I had left were a few stickers and pieces of ephemera that didn't happen to match my project themes.

I may be doing mini kits for the foreseeable future!

September 2025 - Inspiration Kit Reveal and Social Media Hop!!!

Hello and welcome to September!  It's the first of the month and time to reveal our inspiration kit.  I'm Master Forger Vikki and I'll be hosting the blog this month. Our goal here at CKCB is to curate a kit using our stash, without having to buy more product.  Let's dive right in and take a look at this month's inspiration kit!

This month I chose Life Captured by Simple Stories.  I absolutely love the colors in this kit. I also love how versatile it is by including the months of the year, so you can use it for any season that you happen to be documenting.

Here are some photos of the inspiration kit:

I am happy to introduce this month's Guest Designer, Stephanie Olson.  She is super talented and I am so happy that she is joining us this month.

"Hello, my name is Stephanie and I am a single mom to one son, a dog and two cats.  I have been scrapbooking for 25 years and I have just started teaching classes at my local scrapbook store.  I love to travel and spend time outdoors so a lot of my scrapbooking is centered around that.  You can find me on Facebook under Scrappy Adventures, and in The Scrappy Square group I admin with my bestie, or on Instagram @mamabear1900."

I'd like to share Stephanie's kit with you.  I can't wait to see what she creates with it.

The Master Forgers are sharing their Counterfeit Kits on our Social Media Hop.  Make sure you check them all out!  I'll see you back here tomorrow!

August 2025 - Challenge #4 Baby Use Those Scraps!

Oh wow! Can you believe it! We're at the end of the month already, and it's time for our final challenge using our August kits! Let me remind you one last time of our inspiration kit:

Our final challenge is always a challenge to use the leftovers from your kit, in other words....scraps! Use your imagine and see if you can squeeze one more layout from those scraps. Not enough paper? Then make a card, or even some embellishments. We can always use more embellishments. Let your creativity shine and show use what you create. Now, let's see what our Master Forgers created using their scraps.

MF Ryann

Master Forger Ryann had a ton of fun using up some of her scraps for this layout of her with Master Forger Tara on her birthday - the strips behind the photo were so short she cut them in half and put them on either side. The flowers up top are just strips of paper  she tore and mangled and rolled into little flowers for the layout. She layered them over some white crystal drops flowers she drew, and a floral tree in bloom die cut. Foam dots hold up her hummingbird and the table and chairs at the bottom.

MF Christine

Confession time; I did not have a TON of scraps, really.  And the ones I had were fairly large.  But hey, scraps are scraps, right??  I used an older sketch and made it work with the papers I had left.  I did use up pretty much the last of my ephemera, all the green leaves from my little flower kit, and most enamel dots from one sheet.  Overall, I'm very pleased with how much of this month's kit I was able to bash!

MF Tina

Lots of scraps used and still have lots of papers from this kit yet to play with :) Other than the base page the rest are scraps including the word art from a cutapart sheet.

Well, that's a wrap for me! Be sure to check back September first for that month's Inspiration Kit Reveal and Social Media Hop.

We love to see all your beautiful creations so be sure to share in our Facebook Community Group or tag us on Instagram using #ckcaugust2025 #counterfeitkitchallenge

July 2025 Challenge #3

Welcome back to Flashback Month.  Here's a reminder of our kit which, hopefully by now, you have created your own version.

Now for our 3rd Challenge.

Here is a layout I did back in 2014 when we had the original kit

Appropriately the title is "This place makes me so happy."  For this challenge I want you to scraplift it. In case you're curious we were looking around Vancouver.

The Design Team have created some ideas for you.

Master forger Cindy

I pulled in this paper from DCWV "Taja Mahal" from 2009. I thought the circle design was a good representation of Julene's paper. I also had no ideas of the photos I would scrap when I pulled my kit together. I found a few pictures of Derek helping out when we were shoveling snow. I thought the circles made excellent snowflakes.

I did not use any of the embellishments that I included in my kit. I added a few things when it came time make my layout, Dark Blue, white, orange and red cardstock, 3 snowflake punches, alpine snowflake, crystal and large Fiskars snowflake punch, I am using the Martha Stewart Cherish border punch.

I matted the paper with the dark blue cardstock along with the photos. My photos are a different size than Julene's 1 4x6 and 2 4x4. I added the punched border to the bottom of my 4x6 photo and the top of the page. I found a mitten ephemera and added that to the circle. The snowflakes are punched in the orange, red and white cardstock. I love how this layout turned out.

Master forger Misty

I kept close to the basic structure of the lift, but I was able to add more photos by replacing two 4x6 pics with four 3x4 pics.

Master Forger Christine

I used the same structure as the original layout as it worked perfectly with these 20+ year old photos.  I also loved the "happy" so made sure to use that in my little title under the right side photo.  I also loved using the chalkboard elements on this one!

Now it is your turn. Make sure you add it to Facebook in the appropriate post.

Here's what is upcoming for the rest of this month.

  • July 24th Followers showcase
  • July 28th August sneak peek
  • July 30th Baby use those scraps!

Make sure you pop back here to see what is happening. That's all for now.

June 2025 - Challenge #2 - Let's Get Messy!!!

Are you ready for another challenge to help you use the kit you curated this month? Let me remind you of our inspiration kit first:

NJFB "Intrinsic" Limitless Kit

Today, I am challenging you to GET MESSY!

Make it Messy!  Create a mixed media layout!  Get as messy as you are comfortable with or as simple as you’d like.  Stamping, rub-ons, inking, paints, distressing, texture pastes or butters, stenciling, embossing…the sky is the limit!

MF Julene

I used yellow paint, Red mist through a stencil and stamped using black distress ink (2 different stamps). I also added a clock that I 'aged" using a tea bag.

MF Brandi

MF Christine

Not gonna lie, I'm pretty proud of my kit this month! I just adore the organic nature of the colors. It went perfectly with the photos of the pond on our land. I used both rub-ons and some paint splatters as mixed media behind my photos. Can you peep them??

Let's check out what we have for you for the rest of the month:

  • June 22nd - Challenge #3 Let’s Get Sketchy
  • June 24th - Follower Showcase
  • June 28th - July Sneak Peek(FB Community & Instagram)
