August 2026 Challenge #3 - Let's Get Sketchy

Here is a reminder what our inspiration kit had in it!

Your challenge for Let's Get Sketchy - is a sketch that I made -- I hope you have lots of fun with this sketch!

Sarah stayed pretty close to the sketch with her layout! From using a border punch around the matting elements to using some fruit and even the smile title! What a super cute layout!

Master Forager Ryann

 Master Forager Ryann wanted an excuse to use the little orange shaker box she had made years ago that was still sitting in her stash.  The food table and all the fruit included in her son's luau birthday party seemed like a fun opportunity to use up some of the food items from her kit!

Master Forager Tina

Master Forger Tina used those wood frames in her kit to mimic the Polaroid frames in the sketch for this layout

July 2026 - Challenge #1 - Summer Soundtrack

 Welcome to our first challenge of the month!

Since our inspiration kit is the fabulous Crescendo Deluxe Theme Kit, it seemed only fitting that we kick things off with a challenge inspired by music.

As a reminder, here's our inspo kit photo:

Challenge #1: Summer Soundtrack

Create a layout inspired by a song that reminds you of summer.

Challenge Requirements:

• Include the title of a song somewhere on your page.
• Use at least 3 bold or bright colors.
• Add something that represents movement (waves, sun rays, flowing banners, splatters, stitching, etc.).

When I think about summer, I immediately think about music. Certain songs can instantly transport me to a specific place or memory:  a family road trip, a day at the lake, a favorite vacation, a concert, or even a simple moment spent with friends and family.

That's the magic of music. It becomes part of our stories.

For this challenge, I want you to think about the songs that make you smile when they come on the radio. Maybe it's a classic summer anthem, a song that played during a special vacation, or a tune that reminds you of someone you love. Use that memory as the inspiration for your layout.

Don't feel like your page needs to be about music itself. The song is simply the starting point. Tell the story that comes to mind when you hear it.

To help capture the energy of summer, be sure to bring in some bold color and create a sense of movement on your page. Think flowing design elements, splatters, repeated embellishments, sunbursts, waves, banners, or anything else that helps your layout feel alive and full of summer fun.

Master Forger JoJo

Master forger JoJo made a summer road trip music playlist that tucks right in the pocket on her layout. This will be her opening page in her summer scrapbook album.

Master Forger Ryann

Master Forger Ryann wanted to capture the essence of the Guardians movie by adding the cassette tape to her page, and adding the musical notes in a couple colors to add movement and motion to her page. Since this song is one from the movie, and adds to the emotion or “feeling” of the movie, she used it as her title!

Master Forger Tina

This was a fun challenge. Tina used some of the brighter paper she had in her kit for this page of a recent bus trip. Using the Go-Go's Vacation song for the title and some of the lyrics for the journaling made this layout come together fairly quickly.

June 2026 - Baby, Use Those Scraps!

 It is the final challenge of the month!
Before we dive in, here is a reminder peek at our kit.

Master Forger Tina

Just a few scraps as Tina has not played with her kit as much as she would have liked. But with the scraps she had she created some pennants for a fun foodie layout 

 

Master Forger Ryann

 used a lot of the leftover pieces of her kit to punch stars for this layout.  The punch she used gives an outside and inside star, so she used both pieces to create some "magic" elements for her layout.

The layout used the base page she counterfeited at the beginning of the month, as well as the counterfeit circle border she made.  She added a few of the stars onto the border, then layered the stars onto the page, and put all the center stars on foam squares.  She added the smallest bling she could find from her kit to add that "magical" feeling.  The title background paper is also a scrap she cut from one of her leftover papers as well.

 

And that, my friends, is a wrap!!!  I hope you have had as much fun as the rest of us have!

June 2026 - Challenge #3 - Let's Get Sketchy!

 It is the third challenge of the month! This is always our sketch challenge.

Before we dive in, here is a reminder peek at our kit.

On to our sketch...
I decided on this one because it looks like an excellent place for us to use up a lot of those "last bits" of our packages of embellishments! So let's see how the team interpreted their layouts.

To add a touch more fun - I also want to encourage you to add Foam Squares (tape, dots, whatever) to this layout!  Here's the sketch from Hip Kit Club!

Here is how the team took the sketch and made it their own:

Master Forger Vikki

I love, love, love this sketch!  This was a great way to use a bunch of different patterned papers.  I turned one of the photos on the horizontal to make it work for the photos I wanted to document. I added foam squares to the butterflies and the scissors in the title.  This is definitely a sketch I will use again.

Master Forger Laurie

I used the sketch as the foundation for my layout by keeping the bold diagonal design that divides the background into four sections and placing my two photos in the center as the focal point. Instead of the large floral cluster shown in the sketch, I created balanced embellishment clusters with oversized flowers, leaves and a colorful rainbow to frame the photos. I also adapted the title placement by tucking it into the lower right embellishment cluster, adding dimension and visual interest while staying true to the overall flow and composition of the original sketch. 

Master Forger Ryann

used several circle patterns to continue the idea of Core Memories, which is the ride she was on at Disneyland California in these photos.  She pulled in a lot of the ends and packages of embellishments for the left side of the layout - layering a doily and stickers first, then building layers onto those and ending with enamel dots, bling, chipboard elements, and acrylic flowers for depth.  She used faux stitching to mimic the sketch by drawing with a pen.

Only one challenge left for the month! The easiest one to be creative with, right???

June 2026 - Forgeries on the Fourth

 

When you look at a kit to replicate, you may think, "But I don't have something like that...."
No worries! Many times, you can make your own version. See how the team takes our inspiration kit (reminder photo below!) and uses it to create their own elements.

Guest Designer Lisa created some forgeries for us - check them out!!!

Master Forger Ryann 

Ryann knew she wanted to use up scraps with this kit, and she even had an idea on what she would use the forgery for one of them on - a layout you will get to see soon!

This was the first inspiration she used.

And this is what she came up with!

The next one she was inspired by was this image:

Knowing she had a stencil like those leaves, and another of some dots, she tried to forge those two pages.  This is what she came up with:

The lighting is poor, but the top is the part you need to see - they don't have to be exact or perfect, but they feel creative, and you can be artistic in your crafting!

                      

Master Forger JoJo 

Used her stamps from her kit to stamp out some titles, journaling spots and embellishments to match her kit and she made two bows for her kit.

Master Forger Amanda

Amanda saw those beautiful flowers in the embellishments and decided that she would transform her American Crafts pattern paper to have more dimension and depth.  Ink, sprays and some brads later. 

You can see what the flowers looked like before on the lefthand side of this photo, and all of the oxides that Amanda used. 

The sparkle was from Heidi Swapp Color Shine in Tinsel and Tim Holtz Spritz in Fossilized Amber

June 2026 - Just the Gist of It

  What speaks to you the most?  Is it the blues, greens, and yellows?  Is it the pinks, oranges, and goldenrod?  Maybe you love those fluffy flowers or the gingham or that typewriter?  Whatever it is, you can build a whole kit from the elements that speak to you the most!  As a reminder here is the kit we are using for inspiration: Color Me Happy.  

You can approach building your kit in a variety of ways - focus on the parts that speak to you and make you feel inspired.  Otherwise, the kit will just sit, unused, like you never pulled your kit to begin with - and that's not we want!  We want to see your creative juices flowing!

When I went to pull my kit, I knew that I was drawn to the wide range of colors.  I looked at this image: 

 . . . and I chose to focus on the dark blue, the avocado, the goldenrod with yellows, and the pink.  So I started pulling a wide range of those colors from my stash.  

As I pulled, I realized I had a LOT of scraps in those color ranges, too, and decided to through most of those smaller pieces into my kit.  Why?  Because I could see from this piece that I could use a lot of them up - at least, in some capacity!

Those circles were screaming to me to create a counterfeit and use my scraps to do it!  Also, I have an awkward 7x9 paper I get from another kit that had some similar pieces of those spotted papers, so those were also added in. 

I also added several plain white cardstock pieces in, as I knew I wanted to counterfit pieces from this image: 

Now, this could be one sheet of paper . . . but I viewed this as several papers stacked on top of one another, and wanted to try to recreate a couple of them as individual pieces.

I hope this gives you a good start to building your kit.

June 2026 - Inspiration Kit and Social Media Hop

 Welcome to a new month at CKC. Are you ready for more kit-building inspiration fun? Let's kick off the month with our inspiration... the Color Me Happy kit. This kit includes such a wide range of colors that you can draw inspiration from nearly any part of the spectrum. And if you need a little creative nudge, the Just the Gist post arrives tomorrow!

This hybrid kit is filled with a variety of elements designed to inspire your creativity and spark your own unique ideas.  Whether you use stamps, ink pads, or even some scrap ribbon from your stash, I think you can find something fun to counterfeit this month!
 Let's take a look.

Now, let's welcome the guest designer for June.  Lisa Cuneo is one of our regular CKC players from our Facebook group.  Let's get to know her a little more! 

"Hello! I'm so excited to be the guest designer for June for the Counterfeit Kit Challenge. I enjoy building kits from my stash because the inspiration kit always leads me to pull out things I'd forgotten about. I've been scrapbooking for decades, and while my style has changed over the years, my love of storytelling and playing with paper remains the same.

My husband, Dan, and I have been married for almost 38 years; we have a daughter, a son, and a daughter-in-law. Most of my scrapbooking revolves around my family, our travels, and using older photos to record family stories. I don't worry about being caught up, and unless I'm scrapbooking a specific event or trip, I seldom scrapbook in order - I just scrap what inspires me at the moment.

The Color Me Happy collection makes me so happy! The colors are so pretty, and I am especially drawn to the florals and the typewriter. On my YouTube channel, there's a video showing how I pulled this kit together. I hope the Color Me Happy collection, my kit, and the Master Forgers' kits help you build one of your own so you can play along this month. Happy Scrapping!"
